Subject: First Timer: Novice or Age Group?
Hi, I am new to the idea of triathlons. I'm an avid mountain biker, have done some 24 hour endurance stuff, ran cross country many years ago and swam competitively even more years ago. I am signing up for a Sprint but don't know if I should register as a Novice or Women's age group 35-39. Are there pros/cons to making that choice?

I think it depends on what your goals are. If you want some hardware from the race I'd look at past results and see where you have the better chance of placing. This is very important to some people, not so important to others. If you are just concerned with going out, having fun, and finishing a triathlon, then I wouldn't worry about it.

A local race series has a first timer division which gives people a chance at an award that they never expect. Pretty cool.

Thanks Michael!

I'm excited and scared. I'm afraid to fail. Right now the goal is to train hard and compete in (and COMPLETE) a triathlon. I'm hoping to do one in late summer / fall. I'm still figuring this out.... oy vey!!! What the heck did i get myself into??? YIKES...

Garitamar, the unknown is always exciting and scary! That's what makes tri's fun. The only way you can fail is to not give it your best. You're in charge of that. Best of luck.

You will do fine, everyone questions themselves! Commit to your training schedule and you will be ready when your race rolls around.
