Hey, I've been on this site for a while and just found the glossary attached to the "Triathlon Talk" button. Very cool and helpful! Good job BT!

For reference: here it is.  We're always looking to update it so let us know if you have any candidates for inclusion in it.

Maramadaddy,

I get on trouble from work when I:

SELECT * FROM Life

They tell me I should:

SELECT * FROM Life NoLock

I am not sure if locking life is a good thing or not.

BTW - The glossary and everything else is great. Thanks

And all these years I've been writing it.

SELECT * FROM LIFE with (nolock)

To always SELECT * FROM whatever WITH (NOLOCK) is potentially rude, criminal, immoral or even dangerous. For instance

SET @TenCommandments4SQLGeeks = SELECT REPLACE ( 10 Commandments , 'covet' , 'SELECT xxx WITH (NOLOCK)' )

It's usually best to assess the situation first. Laughing

Yeah, I am guessing that a "Dirty Read" would not be the best in this situation
