Total Time = 1h 29m 12s
Overall Rank = 231/530
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 32/77
Pre-race routine:

4 hrs of sleep, 1 piece of whole wheat toast with PB and a Banana for breakfast.
Event warmup:

None. Chatted a lot with fellow racers.
Swim
  • 07m 44s
  • 400 yards
  • 01m 56s / 100 yards
Comments:

Walked the 1st 30 meters or so due to shallow water. Was out in front, so didn't have too much problem finding swim space after the real swimming began, although I've heard differently from other racers.
What would you do differently?:

Not much.
Transition 1
  • 02m 31s
Comments:

My aero bottle decided to come unstraped while I was swimming. I went 10 feet with the bike, turned around and dropped the bottle back off at my spot (Didn't want to throw it on the ground and potentially cause a problem for someone else). Definite loss of time there, maybe 30 seconds. The rest of T1 went smoothly. Thankfully someone in our row brought a balloon, making the rack easy to find. What made it even better was that it was the ONLY balloon in transition. Nice.
What would you do differently?:

Electrical tape on the aero bottle for insurance. Need to figure out how to get faster in T1. I've always been slow in this area...
Bike
  • 44m 8s
  • 13 miles
  • 17.67 mile/hr
Comments:

It seemed to me that women were riding right, middle and left on the course. I began yelling at people to move over if they weren't passing. They listened, so I continued yelling as I found rogue groups. Passed a lot of people on this course. Guessing there were a lot of newbies. Somewhere around mile 10 I found AUTIGERS98 (Mindy) and began yelling "Come on! You can go faster than this!!" She went faster, past me, but we stayed together till the finish. That was fun. And the course flew by.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Had a good time, good ride. Ate gel once heart rate cooperated and drank the water I had on several occassions.
Transition 2
  • 01m 1s
Comments:

Did my lovely flying dismount (always gets a reaction from someone), heard a volunteer say "That's the way to do it!", parked the bike, helmet off, hat on, grabbed race belt, put it on on the way out. Felt good about this one.
Run
  • 33m 49s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 52s  min/mile
Comments:

I intentionally skipped all aid stations but one. I always fall into the trap of drinking a little in training and then water logging myself on the race course just because it's there. I walked about 30 seconds on entire course, which I felt good about. Left hip issue started up immediately off the bike, but seemed to quiet down on mile 2.
What would you do differently?:

More run mileage/speed intervals in training.
Post race
Warm down:

2 bottles of water, a coke, a banana that I forgot to eat, and a long wait in line to get the prized race shirt.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training. Been real slack on the run.

Nice job yesterday!! I too noticed people on the left, middle, and right on the ride. Although I'm a newbie and have lots to learn, I know that you should ride on the right and pass on the left Thanks for helping to educate some folks!

As always, nice job on the race and the RR, E!!  Loved this quote..."so I continued yelling as I found rogue groups."  The tri-Nazi - "you no follow cycling rules, no tri for you!!"

Great job out there, Elena! I'm glad you caught up to me and yelled at me, although you weren't very nice about it. I forgive you....this time. Too bad I couldn't catch you on the run! You did great and I was very happy to race with you. Revenge has been had and now back to training!

I hear ya on the people all over the road on the bike!!  I should have thought of something meaner to yell- although 'on your left' worked.  Great job on the race, it looks like your time off didn't stop you!!  Have you thought about doing something else besides chiro for your hip??  I might check out PT Solutions for my back.

Great race!! You definately got your revenge from last year at this race - awesome job!! Your T2 time is awesome - that's got to be your fastest one yet (right?). It sounds like you had fun (I bet this distance seemed great after Vineman 70.3!)

Congratulations again!!

Great race E! It was nice to see you before, during and after. I laughed out loud about you telling the riders to move over. That is classic.

You will have to let us know when the flying dismount clinic is.
