What can I use to wash my performance clothes that won't break the bank?

Laundry detergent. To get the stink out add 3/4 Cup of distilled vinegar to each load.

Line Dry (not in direct sun)

I just wash them in warm water, regular cycle, regular old detergent, then tumble dry on low heat (no fabric softener).

So pretty much the same way I wash everything else.

I use water and Woolite. I hang my stuff in the shower to dry.

After some of the bodies of water triathletes are made to swim in, I would say a liquid antibiotic!! However, I use OxyClean for all my stuff - it makes my sheets unbelievably smooth and clean feeling and gives all of my clothes a soft, clean feel without any odor, which I love. And it is pretty cheap!!

I use regular detergent, no fabric softener and then just dry, but I don't know if this is ruining them or not.

I read on one of the many labels I cut out of shirts or shorts this year that Woolite is not good because it counteracts the wicking abilities. I used regular liquid "Free" Tide for awhile and added the vinegar. That worked just fine.

But then I read here on BT how fabulous the Penguin Sports Wash is and just got 4 bottles. Considering that you get 18 loads out of one bottle it's not that much more expensive than regular detergent. And the bottles are nice and small (the detergent is concentrated). TriSports has a deal if you get 4 bottles: $27.80, I think (already trashed the receipt). I've washed 2 loads so far: seems good. No suds residue in the door of my front load washer! So I guess it really all rinsed out like the product claims. I'll report back in case I detect any funky smells down the road!

Oh, I forgot: definitely air-dry!

Just wash and dry like every other thing. I haven't had any issues with any of my performance clothes.

My husband sells cleaning supplies, well he sells huge corporate accounts, and thinks all the specialty stuff is just another way to make more money and he understands the science behind it all.

Uh...  All?  Biz?

I just wash mine in the washing machine like normal (no bleach) and hang to dry. We use All Free (no fragrance or softeners). Seems to work fine.

thanks for the heads up on the woolite.  I had no clue what to wash mine in.  I just figured the gentler the better!

Thanks bootygirl, I knew I didn't want liquid as currently it is making my clothes reek! And I also don't want to screw up the wicking ability.

SauseEnte that penguin wash looks great, thanks

Why do I need to air dry my clothes? And for that matter how?

It's easier on the fabric (especially the stretch Spandex part of it), it'll last longer. Just hang shirts on regular hangers and bike shorts on pant/skirt hangers (the ones with a clippy on each end). Other stuff like socks and running tights I drape over a fold-out free-standing clothes dryer. You can get those at Target or Wallyworld pretty cheap.

I hang the hangers on my shower curtain rod and put the folded-out dryer stand into the far corner of my bedroom. Here in the dry desert air it makes a great humidifier

Wash? really? Wash them. Isnt it taboo to wash between events? Darn, I wish someone would have told me.
