Anyone on the BT website participating in the Ogden Valley Triathlon?

I'll be there doing the Sprint distance. It's a new venue this year; hopefully, it doesn't snow again.

I missed it last year as I was in St. George for theirs, but I'll be there this year. Their websites are poorly maintained and information is hard to come by. I specifically asked about the Buffalo Duathlon on Antelope Island and they said they were working on it. Well, apparently it's on for May 3, but no one ever emailed me and they didn't put it on their site. It's not on trifind.com either. The Ogden triathlon wasn't on it last year either. They need to revamp their PR people. The 2008 race is on September 13, I think. They announced the oppening of registration on the same day registration opened for their spring and summer races. So, if you're not on it, it may sell out before you even know about it. I have swum in Pineview reservoir in September and it's nippy. I was just in jammers, but I'd really suggest a wetsuit. The water's usually not very choppy and it'll be a nice venue if they can figure out a good staging area. I'll write up a report after the race this year.

I did the Ogden Tri in 2006 and 2007. Last year the water was a bit nippy but my short-legged, tank type wetsuit was sufficient. I am unsure about racing it this year because of the disorganization along with the terribly rude State park staffers. They were ridiculously aggressive about pathways and parking and couldn't handle any of it without insults or loud voices.

Anyhow, my first Tri this year will be St. George in May.

That's my first race as well as well. I'm wearing white and black, so you'd never spot me, but I hope you have a good race. It was rained out last year. BBSC took it over, but I've heard good things about them. That's too bad about the Ogden Tri, but I can see that. They also have the Buffalo Duathlon, but that's too close to my race for me. I really wanted to do it this year, though.

St. George wasn't rained out in May of last year. I was in that race. St. George's Kokopelli in September was rained out. May's race was very well organized. The run in the red sand is challenging. The venue is decent - especially with on-site camping available.

I'll be wearing Canyon Bicycle Cervelo gear (also black & white with a little red).

Good luck!

That was a typo. It was supposed to say "I was rained out last year." I obviosly knew what month it was when I was there. Reading it, though, it is misleading.

No offense, but your avatar is really scarey. I know someone else who uses it as well on another site. He doesn't have the flashing red eyes, though. Whenever my daughter sees it, she always wants to know if that is really an animal.

It (I suppose it's a dog) supposedly won "The Ugliest Dog In The World" contest. No surprise there. I'm the most mild, clean-cut person you'd ever meet. I don't like people who don't know me to think they know me. I laughed for five minutes when I found it. I almost used a picture of people riding an escaltor into a fitness center, but the picture was too small to see. I'll probably put up a race picture after my St. George race so no one gets nightmares. No offense taken.

Yeah, ugliest dog in the universe is more like it. I have to admit that it exudes a sense of aggression. I suppose that comes in handy during races.

I haven't figured out what to use as my picture. I guess I need to pick something so I'm not just empty space.

What age group are you guys/gals racing?

I tried to sign up for the Ogden tri one day after race registration opened and only the Sprint was listed. Did the Olympic distance sell out that fast? I signed up for the Bear Lake Brawl instead, but had to enter the information for the race. I guess no one else here is going ... yet.

I do not see the Olympic race listed either. I am sure that it has not sold out. I am going to do the Sprint race anyways though.

Did you guys read what triutah.com had to say about this event? Here's their verbage:

Ogden Valley Triathlon - September 13th
Utah's First "Equalizer" Triathlon - single distance
Eden, UT, Pineview Reservoir, Intermediate Sprint Open Water
Sprint: 1 mile swim/15.1 mile bike/4 mile run

The registration at active.com shows "sprint" but it's referring to this "equalizer" sprint....looks like that's the only category.

I'm only up to 800m on the swim right now, so that might be a bit of a stretch for me. I actually am probably going to do Yuba in September. I wanted to do Kokopelli but got overruled by Mrs.(Always)Right.

Ogden seems to be in constant flux. They changed venues last year and had last minute running course changes because of the number of athletes complaining about the chosen course.

The venue hosts were not pleasant at all although the course itself is fairly pretty during the fall.

I may have to look for a different Fall event. September definitely seems pushing it for a Bear Lake swim. Brrrrr! 2006 Ogden was snowed out for the swim and became a Duathlon.

Who on this thread will be at St. George in 2 weeks?

Me too. I'm getting excited.

Looks like Bear Lake will be only 500 people. Looking at last year's numbers there are not a lot of snails like me. It's a beach start and that looks fun. The course is essentially flat. I don't know if that's better or worse. Their website says water surface temps are typically around 65 degrees and wetsuits are recommended. I'm not worried. I think it'll be fun. It's nice to do some races with beautiful venues. I planned on doing the Ogden tri, but it seems like the triutah races are kind of thrown together.
