Somebody please tell Mr. Gebrselassie and Mr. Tergat that after the 21 of October  they can stop fighting for the record.  Yours truly has the intention  of obliterating the record!  It will be funny when the reports come out---A relative unknown in Elite marathoning, El Flaco, has run the race of his life and now owns the World Record.

What a sweet day it will be!

Wow...that's amazing.  I like that he apologized to Tergat after breaking his record and seemed genuinely upset about it.

"I think Paul understands that. I talked to him and said 'Hi, Paul, I'm sorry.' I said 'You can come here and try to get it back again next year'."

That is too cute! And I love how he was trying to say he maybe had the more favorable conditions. WOW - those guys are fast. And, it looks like Berlin is the place to be for a marathon PR .

AWESOME stuff !

Holy crap that's flying!

Chicago is usually the place people attempt the record, so we'll see what happens next weekend ......

Check out his splits

Haile Gebrselassie
Platz / Overall: 1 (in Altersklasse / Agegroup: M30)

5 km: 00:14:44
10 km: 00:29:27 / 00:14:43
15 km: 00:44:16 / 00:14:50
20 km: 00:59:10 / 00:14:54
25 km: 01:14:05 / 00:14:55
30 km: 01:28:56 / 00:14:51
35 km: 01:43:38 / 00:14:43
40 km: 01:58:08 / 00:14:30

Check out those splits.  Can you imagine running sub 15 for the first 30k and still drop your pace that much over the final 10?  I can't even imagine running sub 15 for 5k

So how long do you think until the record is 1:59.59?

The holy grail...  We saw a sub 1:00:00 for the half...  It could be possible.

The athletes from that part of the world seem so humble and nice. We had a student from Africa win a 10k here and he was bowing to the judges before accepting the award.

Unbelievably fast!!  And to have a great friendship like that!  Truly, some very inspiring athletes.  I tip my hat to him.

Holy cannoli!

I can barely fathom the concept of someone racing a marathon that fast.  Even watching people racing 5k's at that pace amazes me.
