My PF is coming back with a vengeance, and I need slipper type, casual shoes for around the house/getting out of bed. Merrill type shoes (Birkenstocks, etc.) are not good for me, as they are what started this, along with an old case of achilles tendonitis, in the first place, as your hell is below your arch with these type of shoes. If I could put an orthotic in it, that would be even better, but if it has a high arch in the slipper type shoe, that would be OK too.

Thanks for any suggestions!

When my arches start bothering me (a prelude to PF), I usually switch to wearing my old, worn out running shoes with my orthotics in them for a couple of days.  But that's probably not what you want to wear around the house.

Ummm...  can you get some kick around leather shoes/slippers that have a heel so you can wear your orthotics?

Have you had it wrapped with sports tape?  That was the only thing that really helped me -- to keep it wrapped while it healed.

Did you have it wrapped in addition to the orthotics? Because when my podiatrist wrapped it a few months ago, it felt MUCH better than the orthotics make it feel!

Get yourself a pair of water shoes. Just about every retailer has them on clearance right now with winter approaching. I got my latest pair for $2.00.

I kept it wrapped except when I was in the bath or the pool.  Basically, he explained, PF is a kind of fallen arch (or vice versa) and that by keeping it wrapped I was supporting it even when I wasn't walking on it, and that allowed it to heal.

I still tried to wear my orthotic too.

I had trouble believing I could have a fallen arch, considering I'm as flat footed as is humanly possible.  In fact, when I walk, my arch collapses instead of "bridging" like normal people's arches.  I like to joke that it means I have a negative arch.
