Any reccomendations on local tri/bike shops? I live in mid-MI (basically an hour from Lansing and an hour from Grand Rapids), but I'm open to going where I best great info and see a variety of products. Thanks!

There are two that I'd recoomend:  bikesport michigan, and fraser cycles.

Bikesport has fitted the Michigan, and national elite, on bikes. Major Felt, Cervelo, QR, Guru, Cannondale dealer. Not a ton of stock, but once you get the fit, they'll order the bike that fits you (he selects from another, say, 10 bike makers beyond the ones listed). You'll get a bike that fits. He's in Dearborn, just the other side of Ann Arbor.

I've heard good things about Fraser, but haven't been myself. It'd be good to hear from some of the other Michigan peeps.

plenty of bike shops in the GR area but nobody really tri specific or even tri knowledgable IMHO

I drove to Dearborn and worked with Tom Demerly at Bikesport and would recommend them to anyone. Very happy with my experienceSmile

This past season I picked up a new tribike from BikeSport as well. He did a great job fitting me and I actually averaged 2 mph faster on the same race this year but with less training. Fit and a great bike do make a difference. Now if only I can get more training under my lazy butt next year....

I've heard lots of good recommendations for bikesportmichigan...in Dearborn as mentioned, and you probably can't go wrong using that route.

Personally, I live and die by the service and knowledge given at Velo City Cycles in Holland. They are the best retailer I've ever frequented of any kind...not just a great bike shop, but a great place in general. Do they specialize in Tri? No. But, they have given me mountains of valuable information related to Tri...and, actually, they generally refer to this as Time Trial fitting rather than being Triathlon specific.

Anyway...just my $.02

Tom Demerly truly is an expert in the field.  Not to mention, at Bikesport, you'll not only get a great fit at a great price, but there are a lot of discounts thrown to customers who have purchased a bike there.  1 year labor and tune ups as well as extreme non-advertized discounts.  Tom remembers your name as well as your bike and experience level and always has great suggestions for training, techniques, and gear.   Why don't you check out their website first before you make the drive?  www.bikesportmichigan.com  or call Tom himself...  he really is a pleasure to work with:  866-720-BIKE

100% Tom Demerly at BIKESPORT.

If you go to 90% of the bike shops they ask you how much you want to spend and immediatley tell you about the bikes you should look at. Tom asks you 30 questions about your experience, budget, training, previous injuries etc. Then takes another 30 measurements, and THEN tells you which bike or bikes will work. Most of the time there is only one bike that best suits you in your price range and you will know that it is going to be the best bike for you. I LOVE the Cervelo P2SL that he recommended. I'm fast on it, feel good for the run, and know that I got a great deal on it.

Sick and wrong, I know...but I went to Bikesport as well.

Tom was great, love my new bike and other stuff. I couldn't believe the time and effort they put into making a bike virgin like me informed and happy!
