Nice ride today! Felt strong up the hills although the speed sure dropped! Gotta keep working them. I really wanted to go 4-5 miles longer, but I am worried about the duskiness. I can see, and I have a light on my bike, I'm just afraid of drivers not seeing ME.

Just a short one, but every little bit helps, right? Wanted to see how to dress in this type of weather, seemed to be fine. Legs were a little fatigued, I'm guessing from yesterday's 11 mile run.

Brrrr, coooold north wind this morning!! First loop was fine, second hurt. Easily kept the HR down this morning, legs weren't having it though, so a nice SLOW long run. Two short walk breaks after 4 and 8 miles to take in Gu and water. It was hard to get started again after that second walk break, but got it going and just kept chuggin along.

Whoo hooo!!! Can you say RUNNER'S HIGH??! Totally fabulous, awesome run, what a difference a rest day makes! Headed out just to get the distance done, and all of a sudden I felt like I was sailing along, everything in the running heavens aligned for a perfect run! AND I negative split it!!!! Perfect running weather, picked the perfect running outfit.... and now time to shower and go out for Mexican breakfast.... LIFE IS GOOD!!

Brrr, chilly wind out there today! Didn't push it on this ride, goal was to keep the legs spinning easy and that was pretty much a success. First 8 miles was cross/headwinds and I just kept pedaling knowing I would fly once I turned towards home and I did! Effortless!! Good ride, glad I got out there...

REST DAY!!!
And good thing too, my left calf is REALLY sore, probably from the swim cramp yesterday when it totally froze up and I couldn't even bend my ankle... of course I kept swimming, in hindsight I probably should've stopped and stretched it then! OUCH!

Just a run, kinda yuk actually. Kept trying to go slower trying to keep the HR down. Some sprinkles, I was hoping it would turn into light rain, but no such luck. Nice breeze when I was headed into it.

Felt fatigued today... form felt fine, must my times were slow for me. And wouldn't you know, just as I'm getting into the 3 swims a week mode, my Thursday morning pool is closed "until further notice"... at least it's not diarrhea this time, it's a broken pump which means it could take forever if they need parts or a new pump. Sigh...

About the only good thing I can say about this run is that it is OVER! A Craptastic run, of the suckage variety... plan called for a 45 minute tempo run, first 1/4 mile I knew THAT wasn't gonna happen, so it turned into a HTFU run, probably more to burn calories than to actually run! I really wanted to cut it short/quit/walk/cry and toughed it out and did none of those. I'm actually surprised at my pace because it felt horribly slow. And now I have a 3 miler to look forward to in the morning so I am hoping for magic restorative powers in the legs overnight!

So my students have been fascinated with Reade's story and have asked about him almost daily ever since the accident back in November. "How's your son doing?" Today he is coming in to talk with my 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders, and they are soooo excited! I'm sure they will come up with some off the wall questions, I'll try and write the strangest ones down and post later, ha ha!
LATER: So I gotta say it was awesome having Reade come to my classroom, the kids really were fascinated. Some were quite squeamish about his "nub", but he let them touch it, showed off his prosthetic, and was very honest about how it has changed his life and that he cried when he found out he was going to lose his hand. One boy commmented on the way out the door, "Mrs. Germann, your son might only have one hand, but he is COOL..." Strangest question of the day would have to go to a girl in the very first group of 3rd graders. Reade was explaining that the damage to his hand was so bad they couldn't save it, and she asked, "Why didn't they use duct tape?" He had to laugh and told her "Well, duct tape can fix a lot but it can't fix everything..." They were really wowed when he held up the nub and flexed his forearm muscles and then explained that he was opening and closing his "hand" to make the muscles flex and that he could still feel his hand. He really drove home the point that fireworks are dangerous and not to mess with them. I think it was a really positive experience both for Reade and my kids, so all in all a great day...
