2013: They call me "HILDEBEAST"....
May 5
May 4
Rest day, school (principal is out today, MOVIES!!), and travel to race site. Dinner out with my good tri friends Tammy and Connie, along with their hubbies and my daughter, Kati... I'm really looking forward to tomorrow's race. Hoping to improve my time from last year, which should be possible if I don't blow up on the run. Last year it was raining at the beginning of the bike leg and the roads were wet the whole time, AND I was 10-11 pounds heavier! First race in new AG....

Decided to forego the 2 miles I was going to run this morning and stay with the tried and true 2 days of rest before a tri... so got an extra hour of sleep!

Just a short ride because I wanted to do a brick. I gotta admit I felt a good bit nervous getting out there, and was a lot more vigilant than normal. Good ride, tried to ride it easy the last 2 miles and spin a faster cadence.

BRICK!! Not a terribly fast transition, had to take a phone call. Legs never felt like they loosened up, and I tried to keep it pretty slow, no need to burn it up right before a race! It was HOT out.

I found out this morning that a guy I've ridden on a few group rides with was hit and killed by a truck yesterday while he was riding in a group of 4 riders. The driver said he never saw them. He was the 3rd rider in a group of four and a tri friend of mine (not on BT) was right in front of him. The riders had called that a car was coming up from behind them, so it was just an idiot driver. So sad and so stupid. There is nothing in the local news about it. And it is so sad that as safe as we can be as cyclists, one stupid driver can take you out....
Called my car salesman this afternoon to find out what was up with my bike rack for my car. What's up was it was NEVER ORDERED and here I was just waiting for it to come in. ARRRGGGH.... had to wait till I got home to give him the part # AGAIN so they could order it. He said he'd follow up on it tomorrow and will be able to give me an idea when it should get here. 2 of my wheels have arrived, so I'm just waiting on the other 2, ha ha!
FOLLOW UP on T. Mack's death.... pick up truck driver hit him from behind, said he couldn't see because the sun was in his eyes. NO CHARGES FILED??? W.T.F.???? If he had hit a CAR and killed someone I don't think that would have been any excuse and he would have been charged with something... he died at the scene. So senseless....

Whew, very muggy and warm out there today. Definitely a sweat fest...

OWS. I know this is lame to log, but it WAS a swim. Just a shortie to try out the tri suit which worked just fine. I'm hoping maybe it was farther than 300 yds, because I'm not happy with that pace!! Water was cool, but comfie, felt good, so I'm sure I'll be fine without the wetsuit on Saturday.

Ugh, I will admit, today I was cussing the wind. Took the route I did yesterday in the opposite direction and I could really feel the wind. A LOT more than yesterday, and yesterday was pretty bad! So I'm happy with this pace... planning on one more short ride on Wednesday with a brick run.

Whew, really felt that wind. Felt good to be back on the bike! Legs were nice and fresh and I just accepted the wind and did not cuss it out, haha! Good ride! I sure do hope the wind slows down before Saturday though!

Bike leg was awesome! Felt strong and fast and got really sick of saying "On your left" for the entire leg!

It was the run, that's all I can say. More details to come in Race Report.

1st AG... out of 1!! Yeah, I was the only one in my AG, and they didn't announce my time, I didn't bring the Garmin so I had no idea how I had done. Official results finally posted online, a 3.5 minute improvement over last year's time, AND I would have wone the 50-54, 45-49, 40-44, and the 20-24 AG!!
