This is more about the preparation, because the ride was bad for me...
So the story starts at 3 am, as I make it home after a great night of fun. I set my alarm for 7 am, so that I may get up early, make something to eat, drink some coffee and make sure I have everything for the 9 am Roswell Ride.
I wake up at 8 am...
Panic mode sets in, as I only have 30 minutes until I need to be out on the road
(I live in Buckhead
). I throw on some bike clothes with a windbreaker vest underneath, and then I make the search for the rest of my cold weather gear. I can't find anything! Where has all my crap gone. Well no time to waste, so I popped my bike off the trainer and switched out my back wheel. I grabbed my cleats and walked down to the car and took off.
Well I get half way out of my complex when I realize that I own three helmets, and not one of them is in my car... So I u-turn it back to my place, run up to the apartment grab my helmet and make one last search for the rest of my cold weather stuff. I grabbed a long sleeve running top, because that would work well enough.
I make it up to the Park after chowing on a clif bar on the way there, and I'm the first one to arrive? Hmm... I guess I may have been a little early and I was almost hoping that the ride got canceled so I could go back home and go to bed. Well, too late to leave now, because Doug just pulled up. Needless to say I was a little worried that our pace would be a little bit faster than I wanted. At least he was representing in his UGA jersey. I then proceeded to ask him if he had a pump, because in my mad rush I forgot to inflate my rear tire I haven't used in months. Unfortunately he did not bring a pump himself.
Well it is after 9 and Justin has not shown up yet
(had to put that in here
). He rolls up and puts on about 6 layers of clothing, I lost count

. Anyways, I asked him if he might have a pump, and his response is no. This is just not shaping up to be a very good ride for me. I decided to ride out on my partially inflated tires as they had enough air to not pinch the tubes or shred the tires. I believe we finally roll out at 9:10ish.
We start out on the ride and the pace is already something I can't handle after a long night. I decide to try and keep up the best I can. Doug and Justin are fast! I appreciate them hanging back a couple times just so I can keep a decent pace. Doug was even nice enough to let me lead a couple of the first hills. After that though I was toast. I mean I had to drop to the third chainring a couple of times, and I've never had to do that on a Roswell Ride before! I could not keep up with those two. I believe there was at least two points where I thought I might throw up. I decide to cut the ride about 2-3 miles shorter than what Justin and Doug did.
I get to my car and rack the bike and swear to myself not to party the night before a morning ride. Bad news. Justin and Doug roll in about 10 minutes later, and we chit chat. They head out for the run and I say "see ya later", because my body is done for the day.
Now I get to go work a Georgia Tech volleyball match versus Florida State, and men's basketball game versus some no-name team. This will be a long day, and a good lesson!
