Don't Panic

So, I decide to go running this morning at a new place for the change in scenery, at Brushy Peak (a place I discovered on a recovery ride a week or so ago) Turned into more of a hike than a run as the trail started going straight UP the hill. Distance is somewhat estimated, but I KNOW this was really slow. Good hill/heat training for the tri in two weeks. It was definitely hot but I only felt overheated a couple of times. (Why is it that I'll go running/riding in the heat to "practice" but going out and working in the yard at the same time is just unthinkable?)

Finally, finally, finally under 275 on a Monday!  Yeah!

Way more of a recovery session. Legs are apparently still wiped from yesterday. Hmmm... no wonder I've been procrastinating the run this morning.

I feel good this morning, not even really sore from the bike ride yesterday.  Well, my butt is not 100% happy, but that's the only part that's whining. :)

I was planning on doing my long run today, but overslept, so not enough time.  I'll do it tomorrow, today is just going to be a shorter run before I go get my kids.

Stayed in Santa Rosa Friday night at Madkat's place, and then we (Jeff, madkat and I) went on a long bike ride around Santa Rosa. Totally pretty country, and nice knowing someone who knows all the roads. Awesome ride. I think we slowed madkat down a bit, cause she kept pedalling away from us and then having to wait.

Jeff had a bike issue (he decided to do bike adjustments about 5 miles into the ride and stripped the threads from the collar) so we had to ride to Guerneville and stopped at an autobody shop so Jeff could do emergency repairs. This ended up putting about 10 miles extra onto our ride and we were all really, really tired by the end.

We met the guy who announces the Vineman races, he came over to see if we needed any help at the autobody place. Tres cool. I think he's probably about 50-60? and there is not ONE ounce of bodyfat on him. You could see all of his muscle definition and every single vein. That was one fit dude.

Working out in the heat this week really paid off as I did not feel overheated once during the ride but both Jeff and madkat were saying how hot it was at different points. It felt really good to me, although I knew it was hot and I went through a lot of liquid.

Just a really great day!  Had a really good ride - although a little longer than any of us bargained on, then Jeff and I took his bike to get fixed at the bike shop.

Then back to Madkat's for her Annual Beer n Brats party - great food, great company - just a really, really good time.

I totally don't know how many calories I ate today, and I'm not even going to worry about it.

Hot, hot bike ride. I was pushing a bit, trying to keep around 90 cadence most of the ride. Mostly just hot though.

However, note new avg. pace!

Swim
  • 30m

Swimming after biking. My arms were really tired at first. When I go running first my legs are tired - turned into an ok workout.

The 10k this weekend is not going to happen as we're going to go and visit madkat and do a long bike ride this weekend, on Saturday.  Then, I have to pick up my kids early Sunday morning, and we're planning on spending the day in SF.  Besides that, I've got to get my Gear Goddess goal finished.  I'm thinking maybe next weekend instead as it's less busy.

Oh yeah, I was slow today. Ran at 10 am, for the heat practice and it was definitely hard. I think I'll do the shorter runs in the heat, at least until after the tri. I have no desire to get out on the run and die because I haven't done any workouts in the heat.

Swim
  • 40m
  • 1400.00 yards
  • 02m 51s /100 yards

100 warm-up, 100, 200, 100 easy, 200, 100. About 15 to 30 seconds rest per set.
8x50 kick
200 cool-down

Trying to focus on power through the stroke. Didn't feel all that smooth in the water today, but did feel like I was generating a good catch.

Ended up not working out yesterday as I was just extremely tired for some reason.  Decided to have one day of complete sloth.  Now that's over, and I'm getting back into it.

Plan:
Run - AM, Swim - At Lunch, Bike - Maybe after 6 pm when it cools down a bit.  I'm not sure what my goal is for hours this week.  I need at least 4 hours biking though.  Gotta make my Gear Goddess goal.

I need to start running in the heat, as my tri in July will be in the hot, hot.

Get myself organized so I can accomplish everything I want to get done this summer.  I'm not working and I didn't sign up for summer school so there are NO excuses for slacking!

Great trip, although it ended up more as a tour than I was expecting.  We spent each night in a different place, and sorta ended up going in a big circle.  We saw Shasta from all directions, it became an old friend by the end of the trip.  Lots of different country on the way.

Highlights:

Going caving in Lavabeds National Monument.  Who knew that this park has the biggest concentration of lava tubes in North America?  Certainly not me.  Who knew that I freak out in caves? I never have before, but something about the low ceilings I think.  I've been in caves before with no problems so...

Seeing Mt. Shasta from every possible direction.  That is one BIG mountain.

MacArthur-Burney Falls - extremely cool falls.  I love waterfalls.

Having a great time every night around the campfire and definitely roasting marshmallows and so on.

Plan:

Get back to working out this week, I didn't do any running on the trip as I didn't really feel like it.  So, I've had a good few days off - now I need to get back into gear.

Seeing the MacArthur-Burney Falls. Very, very, pretty.

Driving home, and we went to MacArthur-Burney Falls which was (sorta - well, not really) on the way.  Very pretty falls.  Then just driving, driving, driving.  Got home about 10:00 pm.
