8:00am - Plan for the day:

1:00pm -   Spinning class at lunch was awful today.  To start, the instructor didn't even know how to set her bike up correctly.  Her seat was so high that her hips rocked from side to side when she pedaled.  Then she spent the rest of the class yelling at folks to keep their heels down, while she had her toes pointed down at a 45 degree angle (because her seat was too high). 

During one section when we were supposed be simulating a "seated climb", she was pedaling at about 30 rpm, and she criticized me saying that I had the resistance set "too easy" because I was pedaling at about 60rpm.  Clearly, she did not see the buckets of sweat pouring off my forehead as I rode.

To top things off, the instructor yelled at me again while we were riding in 2nd position (which is basically supposed to be standing up straight while pedaling) because I had to lean forward for my arms to reach the handlebars!  Maybe if I had my bars set 8" above my seat, like she had...!  

6:30pm - I got out of work a bit late today, but still had time to squeeze in my PT exercises at the gym before volleyball.

10:00pm - Pick-up volleyball was really fun tonight.  We ended up with a few players on our team who I had never seen before, but they were pretty good and we had a real solid team.

  • 12:00pm - Lunch with kateb876 and (tentatively) our triathlon coach, although he has been sick.  I brought workout clothes to work in case this falls through.

Strength training done at Physical Therapy

7:30am - Plan for the day:

  • quick swim with Kate at 11:45am
  • spinning class at 12:15pm
  • physical therapy at 6:15pm
  • swim class (teaching) at 8:00pm
  • lap swim at 9:00pm

1:30pm - Did my quick swim with Kate, then did spinning class.  Spinning class was only 45 minutes, so I started a bit early and stayed a bit late to make it a full hour.

7:00pm - Thankfully tonight was my last PT appointment for a few weeks.  95% of what I do there is exercises that I could easily do at home, so I had to work hard to hide my annoyance at being there.

9:00pm - As I was getting in the pool to teach swimming I realized that I had forgotten my goggles.  I was able to teach class fine without them, but I skipped the lap swimming.  Which turned out to be fine, because I was pretty tired by then!

12:00pm - Tried to get in a "quick run" at lunch, but with my PT-ordered warm-up/cool-down routine, a 30-minute run takes an hour to do.

On a positive note though, my knee felt great the entire time.  Now that I know I can do at least 30-45 minutes of running without an issue, I'm heading back outside, the damned treadmill is making me crazy!

Calves, hamstrings, quads, ITB, foam roller 20x/side

1:30pm - Spinning class at lunch.  It was the first full class that I've done since injuring my knee, so I was curious to see how my knee would feel.  It felt great throughout the whole class, but mid-way through I backed off a bit because my HR was getting pretty high.

8:00pm - After dinner I did my PT exercises/stretching before crashing on the couch for the night.

Skiing today.  The wind was unbelievable, and the conditions were pretty icy in some places.  We skied for a bit while the kids took a lesson, then skied for an hour or so after lunch before calling it a day.

Today we drove out to Williamstown MA to visit some friends, and we're planning on skiing at Jiminy Peak tomorrow.
