Off day from tri stuff, but hardly a rest day. We had 3 yards of mulch delivered Sunday morning and did the bulk of it today, carting dozens of wheelbarrow loads throughout the yard and spreading it.

Bike
  • 1h 02m 38s
  • 17.03 miles

Time ~ 0710-0810
Weather - 59°F and overcast. Legs felt weak and tired in the ride, and knowing that I was doing a brick, I didn't push the pace.

Run
  • 34m 23s

Weather - 62°F and overcast.

Brick - This run was done about 4 minutes after getting off the bike, and was first brick ever. (I had previously done one going from the lifecycle to the treadmill, but that doesn't really count). The first half mile was definitely weird, as my legs made the transition from the cycling motion to the running motion. My legs didn't feel as tired on the run as they did on the bike, but I still took it easy just the same , just wanting to see what a "true" brick felt like. I think I'll give my legs a much need day off tomorrow.

Spreading mulch, planting roses, weeding and landscaping... More of the same to follow tomorrow.

Really tipping the scales, as I haven't been 138 since Dec 1st. I guess gorging myself as the picnic yesterday didn't help...

Weather - 63°F and overcast. It sprinkled for the first 4 miles or so. Not sure what's up with my weight. This is the heaviest I've been in quite a while.

We had our Memorial Day weekend picnic with our Turkish friends, and I consumed way too much...

Swim
  • 13m 10s
  • 500.00 yards
  • 02m 37s /100 yards

I swam this 500 (albeit with the pull buoy) all at one shot, mainly as a confidence boost. Still pretty slow, with a stroke count between 28-32. I spoke with the Aquatics director from the YMCA and he said he would speak to his team of instructors and match me up with the one who could best address my needs of stroke refinement, and (more importantly) body position. They should be getting in touch with me shortly.

Added pictures from the Palos Verdes Half Marathon to the photo album.

Run
  • 51m 42s
  • 5.45 miles
  • 09m 29s /Mi

Time ~ 0610-0700
Weather - 42°F and sunny. Ran a different course to do some hill work and got chased by a dog for my troubles. About 2 miles into the run a black lab came tearing after me, barking loudly. I veered off the road and jumped a ditch before doing a half gainer in the grass, with the dog right with me. Got up and charged at the dog, and he backed away, still barking. As I began running again, he was at my heels again, barking. Charged towards him again, and he backed away again, before following me again barking. We played this cat and mouse game for about 2 minutes or so, and I finally charged and chased him away for 30 yards or so, and he decided not to follow me again. What a pain in the a.... About 2 miles later I realized that my sunglasses had come off while I was somersaulting with the dog. After the run I had to get in the car and went back to pick them up. Looks like I'll be picking up some DirectStop dog deterrent spray before I run that route again.
