Ran my first Stump Run 10K out at the Reforistation Camp. The track was very narrow, muddy, wet, lots of roots (toe catchers), and trees leaning into the trail. Next to impossible to pass for the majority of the course. Fun though

I have done next to NO speed work, so this was taxing on the old ticker. The high schools kids went out hard, so I positioned myself around the 30 year old + group. I couldn't believe how tight and twisty the track was. There were about 4-5 guys ahead of them and they were all keeping a decent pace. I kept tight to the guy ahead of me and wathed the others slowly slip away. Finally I had a chance to pass and I did, around mile 3. Then I slowly pecked away at the others until is was just me and one other guy, at least 200 yards ahead, didn't think I could catch him, but tried anyway. At mile 5 I took him and sprinted like hell to seperate myself from him and the other guy who hung with me after I passed him. Interesting, the guy in the orange, who I ran with and passes at about 4, was still staying within striking distance, and I was starting to feel the effects and myself trying to seal the deal too early in the race. We got out of the tight trail and onto a flat open trail that was wide, I could here him coming, I don't think I"ve EVEN been beat in the shoot, so I was just waiting for him to come up, then I would run with him and drop the hammer, although my hammer was feeling pretty light. All of sudden this guy goes flying by me like I'm standing still, totally caught em off guard. He pulled away and I chased, but lost. He beat me the last 1/4 mile to the shoot. Pretty fun race, I'm not used to going anything under 7 minute miles anymore, especially on a course like that. I ended up 9th OA and 2nd the the guy who passed me in the 30-39 AG. The rest of the runners with 20 or less I believe.

Run
  • 30m

easy miles with a couple of stride outs, trying to get loosened up for the 10 K tomorrow. I heard the course is pretty hilly, and I haven't run much this week, so it will be a fun challenge and great way to spend a Saturday morning.

Felt good to get in some decent yardage. Still have a LONG way to get back to where I was. Did some Swim Golf and hit anywhere from 13-16 SPL and all four came in at 50. Not too bad. Should was a little sore towards the end. Thinking about signing up for the STUMP FARM 10 K Run this Saturday. Sara has to work, but it would be fun to give it a try, plus it's on trails, I'm definately used to that.

November 4

Not sure why I did this. I guess it's cause I'm addicted to working out and the time change has me laying awake at 4:30 AM with nothing better to do. Took it very easy and just tried to enjoy the morning run in the peace and quiet.
