Christoff's Frivolities

June 10

Bike
  • 52m 09s
  • 17.21 miles
  • 19.80 Mi/hr

Good ride. Passed a lot of people to make up for the swim. Gel about half way through as planned. Saw one person who had hit the deck hard. Good amount of blood. Lot of racers stopped to help... one an MD. Paramedics were on the way when I told the cop at the next intersection. After the race no one knew anything about him but many saw him being tended to.

Run
  • 24m 30s
  • 3.12 miles
  • 07m 51s /Mi

Good run. Should have pushed harder. Shoe came untied before the trail portion. I need to look into getting yanks. Slowed me down and legs didn't like stopping much. Found my rabbit after he passed me and just stuck with him. Could have beat him and should have. We both sprinted to the finish I think I had an edge. No hydration on the run worked well. Need to work on focus during the run portion of the race. Definately had more left in the tank that I didn't leave on the course

Swim
  • 13m 10s
  • 792.87 yards
  • 01m 39s /100 yards

1/2 mile swim OW map is an estimation. Everyone told me it was 800+. First OW this season and it kinda stunk. Form went to the crapper. Did okay sighting but definately need to work on this badly. Part of the unoffical time includes transition. More to be said

RACE DAY!!! Up at 4:30 ate and at the course bu 5:50. No warm up because no one had any real clue when we would get our timing chips. Race started about 7:20 Offical time: 1:34:09 Did not meet goal but stayed within training levels. Transition 1: 3:02 pretty bad. Fussed too long with my bike jersey. Should have pinned the number to the back or bought a race belt. Everything else went as planned. Socks were nice and easy to roll up. Transition 2: 1:15 Running in socks went well from the dismount area. Tore the crap out of one of my shoes due to one coming off the bike and the other staying on. The one that stayed on dragged. The other one I carried in my open hand. Running shoes slipped on easy enough but came untied in the beginning of the run. Need to get yanks.

OFF DAY... Race tomorrow.

June 8

TAPER, TAPER, TAPER... I'm sick of TAPER. Ready for the event. I have my race number since I am doing this one for corporate challenge. I will be number 672. Busy night tonight with business folk coming in from Chicago. Happy hour after work with them then probably show them a bit of C-bus tomorrow morning. Been planning tranisition area. T1: No wetsuit so it will be towel off feet, socks, bike jersey, helmet, lock helmet, bike then... debate attaching shoes to bike then running out of transition or putting on bike shoes then running out of transition. Sidi T1 tri shoes with Look clips on the front are not easy to walk in let alone run in. Thoughts anyone? Hydration Plan: Its a Sprint and I will just have my normal with me. 2 bottles gatorade and 1 gel. The bottles sum up to about 1 liter but I have never finished both even on my longest ride of about 2 hours. I plan on the gel about half way through ride (mile 8.6 or about 30min point) depending on speed. Should be enough to get me through the rest of the event. T2: Coming into park remove feet from shoes and put ontop of shoes. Dismount and run socked to transition. Put on shoes and go. I am going to pin my number to my bike jersey so I don't have to worry about anything else except bike legs :) . Hydration stations on run should supplement any other need which I doubt I will use except for a slash of water on the nogg. Expected finish if ran at training pace: 800+yrd swim: 13-14 min 17.2mi bike: 50-60 min 3.1mi run: 26-28 min Total: 1hr 29min - 1hr 42min Goal: 1hr 20min - 1hr 25min Let me know your thoughts people.

Straight out of the water and onto a stationary bike. Just clocked in for this one... nothing fancy. Nothing to note.

Swim

No clue on the swim. Wasn't very focused due to the fact it was so crowded. Outside pool has a swim meet so everyone and their sister was in the indoor pool. They also had the indoor water slide going. The water was cloudy and pretty gross. The slide created a nice bit of clorine aerosol so it hurt to breath close to the water. Not very fun.

SWIM BIKE BRICK DAY. Workout planned after work. We will see if I get there. Slept like crap... woke up at 11:00, 1:00, 3:00 and gave up at 4:45.

Was supposed to be a SWIM BIKE BRICK DAY. Plans changed. With 6 days left before the end of the school year my wife found out for the third year in a row she is going to have to change what she is teaching next year. This makes it 3 out of 3 for her. How they expect her to develop a new ciriculum that produces the best students every year while planning to get her masters degree I have no clue. So needless to say it was a lot of consoling and just staying with her.
