Made the first page of the results for the 10K. I am really happy to see such progress. Last year my time for this was 1:04! They have me here at 2 seconds faster than my Garmin. I'm okay with that. :) And, I've not been tapering. I rode 40 miles on Saturday. Not sure how much difference that would make if I had rested beforehand. This is all part of my training for HIM. I love running. So weird still, but I'm getting used to hearing that thought and emotion come from me.

Iron Girl 10K. PR!!
I'm always looking for info on swim technique and this was pretty interesting. Ten tips for better swim performance in triathlon. Sometimes it's just nice to hear or read the same information from a different source.

Run with heart rate in zone 1-2. Don''t force zone 2. Flat to gently rolling. Continually check form. Quick cadence (88+ rpm). Flat footstrike with weight on ball of foot (not toes). Foot paws back just before footstrike. Brick run. Very easy. Light on feet.
Ride on a flat to gently rolling course. Get at least 50% of ride time in 2 zone. Avoid 3-5 zones. Keep the 2-zone effort steady and continuous.
I liked this route. Ran into a woman I'd met once at a tri-club race last year and remembered her and struck up a conversation for part of the way. It was nice to chat some. Some of the cyclists are just not very considerate. You don't know they are behind you and they rush up onto you and pass without a word. Not even an f-you, get outta my way. Argggg. Need to let it go, Lynn...little balloons. Downloaded a few more free apps for my "touch" last night. One is a word search, one a video game from Disney/Pixar called Up and Fandango to find movies, times, etc. Love that little gadget. I've been logging my food intake and exercise on it for a couple of weeks now. I think that app is called Lose it. It too, was free. Haven't paid for one yet. Me cheap? :)
While I ride I think of all of these things I want to write or lines that would work well in a poem or essay and I don't seem to remember them once I'm back here. Maybe I should start writing the morning pages again. Stream of consciousness writing for 3 pages first thing in the morning.
Picked up my Aflac bib and Aaaaflaaackk duck, shirt, etc. for the race tomorrow. My shirt already has a little pick on the front. boo-hoo. DH says I should try to get it swapped out tomorrow. Maybe I will. I also bought a very cute little charm from triclique jewelry. I'll look for a picture and see if I can post. I wanted it for my keychain.
That's all for now. Gotta get my meeting finsihed for next week.

wu: 200sw, 1 x 50 breath left, 1 x 50 breath right (4x), 1 x 600, 4 x 100 pull (did this continous), 100 kick, 100 back
Heart rate zone 1-2 on gently rolling course. NO zone 3. Walk hills, if necessary, to hold heart rate down.
I need to eat more than I did before this run. About halfway through I just felt deflated, not defeated, but deflated. Lost my energy and so slogged the rest and made it home to help son get ready for Famous American day. He's dressed in DH's suit and wore an old flannel shirt under it instead of a nice dress shirt. ??? Anyway, the clothes fit him better than I thought they would. He is growing/has grown so much in the last 6 months. I'm living with two guys -- not a kid and a man anymore.
Note: Eat more before running. My PB toast is the bomb and I just grabbed a handful of granola and 1/4 banana. Good lesson to learn.
Swim on tap for later.

''Hills.'' On trainer with high resistance setting. Do the following 8-12 times: 30 seconds @ 70-80 rpm, 30 seconds shift up, 30 seconds shift up, 90 seconds recovery). Seated. Heart rate 4-5a zones.
strength/core--lunges, shoulders, chest, abs, back
Trainer ride today. I think I did about 10 or 11 of these between getting home from work and picking up the carpool. Then had open house at son's school. Basically went and thanked the teachers for a good year. Son stayed at home and worked on homework. Last time at this school. He moves on to HS next year. His promotion ceremony is in a couple of weeks. DH gets home tomorrow and I'm sure he'll be beat. I think he'll have been travelling for 20 hours or something like that. Ick!
I'm starting to get excited for the Iron Girl 10K on Sunday. We get these cool Aflac ducks. (See photo above) You squeeze them and they say Aaaaflaaack about three times. Lots of good swag at this race. I'm hoping for a PR. I've improved a lot since last year. As long as I don't trash my legs on my long ride scheduled for Saturday.

cove swim right after the dolphins....
Trail run...lots of steep ups and downs hence the slow pace. Good workout though.

Right as I was walking down to the cove, I noticed a fin in the water. I thought at first it might be the flipper from a diver or snorkeler. There weren't that many people in the water. Then I saw it again. Then a little closer to the swimming lane I saw two and then three fins. Three dolphin made their way across the cove out to open water. It was so calm and peaceful the way they come up, arc and then go under only to rise again 20 feet or so farther away.
I got in the water shortly afterwards and thought about the dolphin much of the swim. What a magnificient sight. There were also sea lions or seals (always get them confused) over by the caves and a friend said one was swimming with them today. Maybe the strange weather we had today brought the dolphin closer to shore. It actually hailed and we had thunder and lightening. Very, very rare for a June day in Southern California. Nice friends in the water, of the two-legged kind and great scenery and vibe today. Water was 64 to 67 and smooth, light surge and 10 to 15 feet visibilty. Saw a few girabaldi (the orange fish).
Trail run was okay. I turned the wrong way and ended up going up and down some pretty steep hills. So steep that I didn't dare try and actually run down them for fear of slipping on the rocks and dirt. I'm calling this the poop trail run because I saw so many kinds of excrement...dog, horse, bird. Thankfully, didn't step in any and didn't have any dropped on me.
No track for son. I think his season may be over. Aside from his total lack of motivation, he has inherited ingrown toenails from the other side of his genetic makeup :) and will have a surgery to have those removed at the end of the month.

I'm tired. It was a long day of training and since I didn't rest yesterday on my "rest" day I'm feeling it today. Tomorrow won't be so tough, just an OWS and an hour run. I feel so confused about swimming. Am I dropping my elbow? Am I dragging my feet? Am I kicking too wide. Oy veh! So many things to think about. I just swam and swam today though, or at least it felt like it. Didn't take much rests between sets. At one point for about 1/4 of my workout I had the entire 9 lane pool to myself -- truly heaven. Blue sky, little white wispy clouds. Very nice. And, then some kids and their mom got into the lane next to me. Granted, the kids had flippers on, but they blew by me. They were only doing 25's also and I was in the middle of my 300's, but geeezzz...Maybe I should change my name to turtle...but wait, turtles are faster in the water, so even that moniker won't work. Oh well. I"m doing what I can.
Gotta go to the store and to pick up the bi-weekly organic veggies and then fix some din-din.
