"I didn't use the HR monitor function at first but started after 3-4 months. I find I greatly miss having my Garmin on those rare days when I let the battery run out. "mjewen

Not much to it, depending on how many features you want to use.

There a few functions I don't use much and have to look up in the handy manual that came with the unit.

During a bike ride, I had it on the wrist quick release mount and went over a big bump. The Garmin 305 unit fell off, bounced on the road but still works great.

I have used both the original watch band type strap and the velcro quick release wrist band. Both work fine.

The displays can be tailored to show numerous data fiels, from 1 to 4 on up to 3 displays, different for each sport.

Last spring I used to my Garmin to track my run workouts while on vacation it Italy. It was great to know how far I had run when I had little idea of where I was. Way cool to come home and see the Italy runs on the mapping feature.

It looks big but is not an issue when you start to use it.

I was having troubles with the heart rate sensor after almost a year of use. Tried replacing batteries but either got no reading or inconsistent readings on the HR. Other functions working fine. I caled Garmin Support and 4 working days later I had a new heart rate sensor strap.

No issues at all.

It's great to have my workout data automatically recorded. I also like the interval feature, so I can do distance intervals without running/riding a known course or a track.

The unit looks big but once you wear it you find it's not a big deal. My battery life is about 3-4 workouts, you do need to pay attention to battery life and recharge (which is easy) when it gets low.
