Pre-race routine:

I decided to take a quick vacation and visit friends back in the Seattle area. The Dawg Dash is one of my favorite races (when I lived in the area) so I was glad to time my trip over the right weekend.
Event warmup:

One gel (gu orange burst) 30 minutes before, with a cup of water. It was chilly so I also grabbed a mini-cup of Starbucks chai tea latte, a free sample they were handing out. ;)

Comments:

I had a great run, setting my 10K PR on this course!
What would you do differently?:

Not much, for what the event offers, I did as well as I can expect. I've had a long term goal of doing a sub 45 min 10K, so on a less technical course I am positive I can do it. To come close at this event is a success any way I look at it.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretch, waiting for friends, pancake breakfast get-together afterwards.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Historically, I've done very little speedwork. I plan to do regular speedwork throughout this offseason and put in some effort into getting faster!

Event comments:

This is really a fun run, put on in coordination with the UW Alumni Association. This year was the 20th anniversary, so they had extra giveaways at the post-race bash. This is one of my favorite Seattle area runs.

Performance: Good
My Polar Footpod took mile splits: mile 1 - 7:49 mile 2 - 7:38 mile 3 - 7:21 mile 4 - 8:02 mile 5 - 6:56 mile 6 - 6:50 mile 0.2 - 1:12 The footpod measured this course at 6.17 miles, which is within 0.48% accurate. I'm not sure the course itself is measured that accurate, since it changes slightly every year!
Course: Since I came so far I did the 10K. The course is technical, with many turns, stairs, hills, etc. It winds through the UW campus. The event allows dogs and baby strollers so it draws a lot of people. The first two miles were crowded and involved weaving around people and climbing some short stairs, and getting out of Husky stadium which had a sort of funnel exit. The next two miles were hills and the first aid station. Right before mile 4, the course hits its peak elevation and that means it is generally downhill or flat the rest of the way. The last part of this event was on Husky Stadium track, and I ran it as hard as I could.
