Run
Comments: Once I got through the crowd, I found myself at a 7:15 pace. I was actually surprised how confortable I was at that pace. This was faster than what I planned to do, but I thought, what the heck. As I got to the 1/2 way point, I felt myself slowing down gradually to about 7:50. I was determined to keep it under and 8 and I never did fall below that. At about that point I was playing cat and mouse with a guy pushing a stroller (come on man!)that helped me keep my pace. I tried to kick it back up about the last 3/4 of a mile and got back to a 7:30 pace. My legs were holding up, but my heart and lungs were yelling at me. About the last 1/10 some guy tried to pass me, I was determined not to let it happen. I didn't much left in the tank. I kept him from passing me, but we crossed at the same time. The results show us with the same time, but put him one place up from me. I guess he was better looking. ;) What would you do differently?: not much, except maybe run the 1/2 mary Post race
Warm down: Walked around to get the old ticker back down. Went in and looked at the results and discovered that I was second in my age group. Holy Crap! After the 1/2 mary finishers came in I found the other BTers and traded race stories with them. (BT folks are even nicer in real life) What limited your ability to perform faster: genetics Event comments: I was originally supposed to do the 1/2 mary. However I have been recovering from IT band issues all winter and thought I was about two weeks from being ready. So I decided I would have a little fun and run the 5k as fast as I could without injurying myself. Mission accomplished. Getting hardware was just unexpected icing on the cake. breakfast the usual: two bagels, some cereal and orange juice. My daughters had a dance competition, so I helped my wife get them together and out the door. This meant I got to the site a little later than I wanted. I also did day-of registration. So I missed meeting up with fellow BTers prior to the race. Spent a few minutes talking to my friend Kyle, who had an Orthodics booth at the race (and ran the 1/2 mary).
I parked pretty far away and ran (.3mile maybe) to the registration. I'm glad I did.
