  • Comments: Registration opened late...no sweat for me but MarkK seemed a little stressed about it. As last year I thought the post race activites kinda sucked compared to some other races I've done. There weren't enough aid stations on the run (there were 3 but the last one was 1/2 mile prior to the finish line). The bike course was marked well enough but there were two spot on the run that really could have used some arrows. And the course distances didn't seem very accurate. Mark did another race put on by the same person, and the general consensus was that the swim course was too long. That race ALSO lacked volunteers and post race activities were mediocre. These races tend to be more expensive too. As a result MarkK and I have pretty much decided to stay away from the entire Lake Geneva Extreme Series. STILL, my placing was AWESOME for me!!! I actually got solidly to the front of the pack and I am THRILLED about that!!! :)

  • Comments: Well I tried to do a Sprint in Zion last month as my first tri but they cancelled the swim and I had a flat on the bike so I hope you will allow me to call this my first triathlon. In any case, this was my first Olympic distance triathlon. I have to say finding this sport this summer has done a world of good for me. In June of this year I hit a weight I thought I would never see and I think some confidence left as the weight came on. My friends kept asking me to come out east to do a triathlon and I kept saying no. They finally told me to find one near me and they would come to me. How could I say no? However, they didn't know the awful shape I was in. I found this website and found the 16 week Olympic training plan. I had to start it in week 4 (kids, don't try this at home) but from that week on I think I only missed 1 or 2 workouts. I stuck to the plan religiously. I got up between 4:30 and 5:15 for most workouts so I would take as little away from my family as possible. Now,

  • Comments: The swim course was definitely short... how short, I don't know. About 10-12 minutes short in my case. I was meandering all over the course and still managed to finish a good 9 minutes better than my best Oly swim time. This race is notoriously disorganized, but it didn't seem that bad to me this year. I had a great time... Looking to improve next year... Tri season 2005 is a WRAP!!! Photos to come.

  • Comments: Only my second race and first olympic...but...compared to harborlights...less volunteers, less water, seemed less organized. Post race food for like a gazillion people was limited to one picnic table in a gazebo with a long line. But regardless...phenomenal weekened!! I achieved my goal of under 3hrs...the course was actually beautiful (esp the bike), able to enjoy the tri and see and wave and scream back at the kids....and the weekend at the abbey went great. Kids had a blast in the pool!
