  • Comments: Another great race by the CTA and a decent result considering how little I've been training and no real race-specific focused training at all for any of my races. My aim this year is to just enjoy racing a lot and not put any pressures on myself as I tend to do better that way. Plus with the way life is (kids, work, family time, house) I just can't seem to make a training schedule that works for all occurrances in my life - so I'm not constraining myself to any schedule and just winging it and racing. But top 10% both AG and overall?? I certainly have nothing to really complain about!

  • Comments: I knew the race was difficult going in, and apparently I could be considered nuts for making it my first ever, but really I have no complaints. I had fun despite my swim disaster and am looking forward to Eagleman!

  • Comments: I was in the top 28% of my age group and top 19% overall, both are the best I have ever done here. I really wanted a 2:35, but dreaming of a 2:30. I won't blame the weather, or bike wheels, but with better weather and faster wheels, with my current conditioning, I can do it. I still feel really, really good about it. This is a tough course, and the conditions were not great. To come in 3 seconds slower than last year. Not bad at all.

  • Comments: I was largely disappointed with my performance after the race, because i know i should have been able to do better. Life got in the way of training (2 kids, 1 1/4 hour commute each day), and i need to find better times to get quality training in. On the other hand, i did about what my ability was at this time (except the swim). I have nowhere to go but up, so the future hopefully looks bright. I enjoyed the experience and the challenge, and i hope to do this race next year to get a little personal revenge. The rest of this year, though, will be running baltimore 10 miler, baltimore half or full marathon, and some sprint tris, and another olympic. Congratulations to all the great performances out there. Hope to have more good ones to share.

  • Comments: I went to see the iron girl last year to cheer on some friends, and watching it i was motivated to do one of these things. So i came home that night, looked for the closest one, and was like cool. I tried getting a friend to sign up, but he backed out and i had already paid for the registration fee so i decided to stick with it. Being my first triathlon, i was just aiming for finish. And i'm actually amazed i did. This triathlon stuff seems pretty fun, but i'd definitely need to learn a lot more before trying again (how to freestyle -_-''). And train a lot more. There seems to be a theme going on here. Oh, the people there are great! Being that i read reviews for this race before race day in hopes of seeing what it'd be like, if someone out there is reading this and this is going to be their first one, i'd just like to say you can do it! And don't give up, no matter what your mind is telling you. It's a great feeling when you finish and completely worth the pain that you went

  • Comments: Course was very challenging but not too hard. I really enjoyed the race itself even though I struggled badly on the run. I'd like to do the course again but don't know if it was worth an overnight stay. Volunteers were great, course support was great, course itself was great. Now to whine a bit: I did think some of the ancillary stuff was pretty weak: Web site - misinformation and unclear info. Example was Homewood Suites was listed as providing a discount to race participants, but they didn't. Also, I had no idea what the Columbia Inn was but it was mentioned quite a few times in race materials. Found in some fine print that it was the former name of the Sheraton, plus I had to hunt around to get the actual street address Email - 2 emails to organization got no reply, plus I got spammed very clearly from a global email CTA sent out Bad grammar & punctuation in materials - petty, but it's a big deal to me for various reasons Expo - some good deals, but some stuff way

  • Comments: I went into the race as a way to jump start the season for me. I didn't consider it a A race for me but it was very challenging and helped pinpoint my weak areas (all of them). Glad to see my friends do very well especially DocSwim who won his age group.

  • Comments: I am stoked. I got caught up behind the bike accident last year, but even with that my time would have been about 3:15 - 3:20. I had been telling myself for the last few days that sub-3 might not be in the cards, since I hadn't done any events yet this year to really gauge my progress. I am so happy to be this much healthier, not just in terms of triathlon but in overall lifestyle. Bring on Eagleman!

  • Comments: Great race, it was my first Columbia so I was pleasantly surprised with how well the race was run logistically. I PR'd by over 9 minutes from my last Oly last summer, so I was really happy about that. Weather could've been a little better, but what can ya do.

  • Comments: This was my first tri, so I don't have a huge basis of comparison. But, it compared favorably to many of the races I've done. The post race festivities were a little dull, but I think that was mainly the cold and the rain sending people home.

  • Comments: Amazing how organized and well run this event is. Look forward to doing it again. Great Volunteers, course markings, well supported course hydration and neighborhood support, just AWESOME. Will update the times when the final results are published. These are times from my Ironman Timex. Updated 05/18/09 Timex was close and so I have my T1 time. This is a personal best for a Olympic distance by a mile. My only other event was 03:42:05

  • Comments: Chrissie Wellington was putting medals on finishers after she settled down. Where else do you get that kind of thing? As far as food goes, it's just some cold (intentionally) pasta, cookies, and bananas. Not what I would want but not horrible either. The volunteers are wonderful, the bike course support is really good. The course is a challenge but not so much that beginners can't do it. It draws pros, as well as a lot of beginners. It's a great community of racers, what's not to like?
