  • Comments: 5th year straight doing this race. I love it. but it looks like they really skimped on the spending this year. fewer portapotties, crappy givaways (compared with last year), food was sub-par, and the new timing company still doesn't have official sortable results up and it is 10 days later. but, the Columbia tri folks sent out a survey and I was happy to provide my feedback..nice to know they are listening. I will be back.

  • Comments: There are not enough words to say how great this race is. Tri columbia is known for putting on the best races in the Mid-Atlantic and I am grateful to have raced in the 30th anniversary of the Columbia Triathlon. There were so many volunteers which made for an amazing day. I really loved the atmosphere because it was a large race with a competitive field that had a good mix of non competitive racers like me. I finally conquered my fear of this course and came away with a Olympic Distance PR!! whats not to love about that!! I will definately be back next year and would encourage anyone looking for a great race to give this one a try.

  • Comments: This is a great race! Challenging. Loved the Quinoa salad. Waited around for the results and was confused by the printouts (they had me as 5/23 in my group - did not make sense). By noon, I finally asked about the awards ceremony and was told they were already going on up on the hill. I never heard the announcement and was waiting for them to tell us where the awards would be held. A LOT of people were waiting for this - an announcement would have been good. It was nice that they split the women's 45+ group into two waves (A-k and L-Z) - however, I wonder how many actually started in the wrong wave (forgetting there were two) - - we are used to lining up with same colored swim caps. I guess the chips figured it out. Packet pickup was moved this year and it worked okay, except driving from the church to the park you were forced to go about a mile down the road and make a U-turn to return to the park that is directly across the street. I guess they expected people to walk

  • Comments: I guess I could be disappointed by the total time. But I have to accept that a dropped chain on the bike is beyond my control. If I hadn't lost those five minutes on the bike, this would have been an easy PR. Which is both encouraging and frustrating. Total time: 2011: 2:44:26 2012: 2:45:26 2013: 2:47:33 As always, this event is top notch. But what happened to all the nice swag this race usually gives out? Last year we got the sweet transition bag, this year we didn't even get a water bottle. For a $160 entry fee I expect to get more than just a cheap t-shirt.

  • Comments: I love Tri Columbia events. I have completed this race and Eagleman and both have been spectacular. They always have a great pro field, great volunteers, and great organiziation. Coming into this race, I knew it was gonig to be challenging and it always brings out the best AG in the region. I pushed myself hard and finishing was the best feeling. I stayed around for the awards to see where I placed, and found out I won my AG. It was sucha great feeling and gives me a lot of confidence going into Rev3 Quassy and Ironman Lake Placid later this year. Congratulations to everyone who finsihed the course. An already challenging course was made even more challenigng by the wet weather. And a big thankyou to the organizers and all the volunteers and on course support.

  • Comments: Another great year at Columbia. Even though the weather wasn't all that great there were an unbelievable amount of volunteers out on the course, in transition, and at the food tent after. This is definitely a top-tier event.

  • Comments: This is a terrific event and this was the 30th year. Well organized and supported. Very competitive -- female 55+ masters winner time of 2:31:18!! I love the big event atmosphere and the wonderful support. I headed into this race thinking I would be about 10 minutes slower than last year given my training. I was spot on with this assessment. There is a possibility I could have found some time in every segment if I had pushed myself at bit more but I just wasn’t up for it. It was almost as if I “just showed up”. I was really, really tired when I got home. All in all, it was a good solid performance but not what I had hoped for earlier in the year. Even so, I moved up a few slots this year (12th vs 15th).

  • Comments: TriColumbia did an excellent job organizing. Everything went very smoothly, and it was clear these folks know what they were doing, despite the wretched weather. As for constructive criticism, I'd suggest that the transition area remain open until closer to the actual beginning of the race. As it was, I had to wait an hour between the closing of the transition area pre-race and the beginning of the actual event, and heard of others in later waves who waited almost two hours. In my case, I had to go to the bathroom again. Since I had already put on my wetsuit, this was inconvenient. If I had it to do over again, I would've waited to put on the wetsuit outside of transition after bathroom necessities were complete. Finally, it would be nice to be able to get in the water and warm up a little bit before the race begins. These are really minor points, though. As for my performance, I'm really happy with that also. Two weeks ago in Charlottesville my time was better by four minutes,

  • Comments: Overall 7 seconds slower than last year. A little frustrated by the cars on the bike course, but stuff happens. Fun race as always and a good early season test.

  • Comments: This is a pro-level race and extremely well-run. I feel proud to have been a part of it. I think I have a good idea of what areas I need to improve upon if I choose to do it again. It challenged me in every way: psychologically, physically, and emotionally.
