  • Comments: Great race. It's just so unfortunate that both weekends were so hot. It's interesting that the average temps for that time of year really are in the 70's. You just never know. That's the hard thing about these early season races. You spend months of training trying to stay warm outside, and then race day comes, and you can't stay cool enough. This was a great experience and even though I said never again as I waited for the times to be posted, the next morning I was wondering what I'm going to do next. I definitely forsee another half at some point. I really do like the distance. And thank you to everyone that supported me over the past 4 months. The people you surround yourself with can make or break you. And all of you made me a half ironman.

  • Comments: I will not do this course again. If you like the heat and are fast on the flats, this is the race for you. The lake was beautiful but not enough to make me go through the heat of this course. I heard it called "White Bake", they weren't kidding. The recycled ice towels were pretty nasty. At one station the young volunteers had started to fill the drinking cups with towel water. NASTY! I am sorry that I spent 6 months training to race in these conditions and still am left wondering what I could do if it had been cooler. In the end I did complete a 70.3. I am proud of that.

  • Comments: Learned a hard lesson to think hard through nutrition before the race and make sure I don't forget anything. I strongly believe that I could have met my goals had I not gotten behind on my salts. It wasn't my strongest day.

  • Comments: Overall, 6th in AG in swim, 19th on bike and 15th on the run for a 12th/54. Last year I was 8th/64 I think but this is a comparable performance. I am pretty disappointed because I was hoping for a good race, rather than being slower in every event (OK, conditions were worse but it is still disappointing). And then killing my bike on the garage roof when I got home really made it into an unpleasant day. Plan for the rest of the season is to just do sprints and maybe an OLY. I enjoy the training and racing, but didn't enjoy this race or being away from the family on many sunday mornings. I'll try do shorter, faster stuff for now and re-evaluate as I move forward. What to do about my bike though!!

  • Comments: Good race for first time HIM'ers but choose the first weekend to improve chances of cooler temps. 372 men, 700 total participants

  • Comments: I thought the run course sucked. the surface was a slanted road shoulder which eventually began to tweak my knee on the way back. No shade sucked too.At least there was an aid station every mile. The whole recycling used towels in the chill coolers is just gross. I recommend keep your 1st towel and use it the whole race. Food selection out on the course was great! Overall this course was a tough one. Being my 1st Half I'm not surprised.
