  • Comments: A horribly managed race by RnR. Too many people, no corral enforcement, corrals were rushed out onto the course without giving them a chance to thin out. Finish line was a fiasco, photos were creating a bottleneck which stretched back to (and over) the finish line. Later on, for the slower runners/walkers, they ran out of finisher medals!!! 44,000 registered, $6 million in cash, and they can't provide enough medals? Pathetic, RnR.

  • Comments: Did I mention I PR'd? :) And I got a sweet medal that glows in the dark. AND I got to hear music by my 2 favorite bands while out on the course. At the downtown LV Blvd split there was a band doing Social Distortion cover songs (I heard "Reach For the Sky" the first time I ran by, and going by the second time after the turnaround they were playing "Prison Bound"). Somewhere between miles 10-12 there was a band who at the time I ran by, were playing "Ruby Soho" by Rancid. Of course I was singing along every time, and they helped add a little pep to my running step to boot. :)

  • Comments: Apparently a lot of people further back had some major issues at this race. There's a huge outcry going on right now at the RNR LV Facebook page. My experience was great so I can only comment on mine although I wonder how much of everyone's bad experience was self inflicted and due to just not being aware or adept at what to expect with so many people. It sounds like they were short on volunteers but I sit here wondering what you can really do about that at the end of the day. I suspect the biggest issue was the standard "me me" attitude of most people. It's sad but a lot of people have zero concern about anyone but themselves and from what I hear, they affected the experience of a lot of marathoners at the end.

  • Comments: Last year was way better than this year. They capped it at 20,000 racers. This year? 44,000 racers. The course cannot handle that many people, seriously. Imagine if many people had their family members there and such. So for everyone in this race, I wouldn't be surprised if there was about 60 to 70,000 people related to this race. There was NOT enough volunteers, although there was a lot, but not enough to handle this number of people. They had to have people at certain stations (such as Gear check), and sacrifice some areas. After the race, it was VERY very difficult to get back to the tram. The hotel was not prepared for all the people (and not only that, but the OTHER people staying at the hotel, or going to see shows and such). It was just CRAZY!!! Some people were getting pissed off at me for not pushing people, and I'm like, "Dude, I'm not going to shove people just so you can get there a minute faster!" I *should* have just gone outside, and WALKED to MGM! I would have made

  • Comments: Way disorganized. Expo was jam packed. Had to pick up my ticket for the pasta dinner there but the booth was hard to find. Space needed to be way bigger and more cashiers. Waited over half an hour to check out (Friday and Sat). The start of the race was horrible. Markers for the corrals were small so you could not tell which direction to head to. Getting in involved climbing over the barrier. The finish line area was way to packed. Could not get food because of the crowds. No signage letting you know where to go. Too few volunteers in all places. Running the strip at night was fun, but the total chaos of the race really distracted from the fun. I've always heard how organized Rock and Roll events are. Mathis was not a good first impression. By disappointed. I heard that they ran out of medals, watrer on the course and even shirts at the check in. Hard to understand, they knew exacly how many people there were. I had planned to do this next year, but they say they will
