  • Comments: Good race overall. The most important factors to me are that it's safe, organized, and fun. I think the aid stations were understaffed though...both bike and run. They also could have put on a better spread of eats for the athletes after but that's a very minor issue and definitely wouldn't stop me from recommending this race to someone or doing it again myself. Overall SetUp Events puts on a great race.

  • Comments: Its a personal best for me - though my only other half was the Duke Liver Half back in 05. And anyone who knows that course knows that it wouldn't be that difficult to set a PB in White Lake when the only other one you have done is DLH. Lots of good friends out here which always makes for a great race.

  • Comments: Wow. This was my first HIM...I am a bit dissapointed in my time and inability to run the entire half marathon, but taking a step back from the whole thing, I am very proud to have competed and finished. I beat 9 people in my age group! I think they all burned up their legs on the bike and I got by them on the run. Thanks to Bostic, TriNC , JenneUNC, 1Foot and all the others that were part of my day...oh, and especially SPot for the great encouragement out on the course all day! I think we are lucky to have Set-up in our area...all of their races are well done...except for the darn beans and rice...gimme somethin' else to eat!

  • Comments: This is an awesome race. The aid stations on the run were placed at perfect distances. My only complaint was they needed more volunteers at a few aid stations (bike)...but that is always a challenge. The volunteers and crowd support were amazing. Set Up puts on great events. The venue for the race is awesome. I hope to come back next year, camp out and make a weekend of it.

  • Comments: As usual, SetUp does a great job. The race itself is always well supported and I cannot begin to say enough about the volunteers for this race. They are simply awesome. This race was such a good learning experience for me. I did not finish with a "I'll never do this again" attitude but a "come on Duke" attitude. I enjoy these longer races and would like to see what I can do when really in shape. A big thanks to Jeff Bostic for picking me up just before he finished and a huge WE MISSED YOU and get better soon to the Wakeman.

  • Comments: Setup did a great job with this race, with a well-marked course and good support along the way. I think the volunteers were great! They worked hard to get us our drinks and food, and they were very encouraging.

  • Comments: Despite the disaster on the run, I had a great time. Now, this is of course 48 hours later. At miles 11-12, I was seriously thinking of not doing another 1/2 and limiting myself to olympic distance races. But, really I enjoy this distance. (I'm strange that way) As I told one of the aid station volunteers, we pay good money to feel this bad. Wish I was a better swimmer. The biking and the running I know I can do, but the swimming just isn't clicking. I ran this race without a watch. I really think that helped. No issues of feeling like I was behind or anything like that. The only negative voices I had to battle were during the swim and the last leg of the run. I think I will do that at Duke as well. Just go race to the extent my body can handle it and see where we end up. I actually had fun not worrying about the actual time and just pushing myself. Without the 2.5 miles of walking, I beat last year's time handily. So, nutrition is still the puzzle I have to solve. Had

  • Comments: Good competition and a flat course. The lake is probably only about 14' deep!! If you are used to placing, you might not fair so well here unless you are an elite athlete!! Other than the chaffing I got from my wetsuit, which was my own fault, I can't complain.

  • Comments: I think this was the best race possible given my fitness. I need some more run miles under my belt, but that requires that I be healthy. One day, maybe. On consolation is that a number of the elites I heard talking were saying that the course was slow today. I really don't know how that would be considering the weather but a number of them had sort of slow days. I'm really disappointed in my bike. I think I should be doing 2:30 on that course.
