  • Comments: after cd'a i swore off iron distance racing. then IMTX popped up as a first year race. i signed up for the simple fact that i didn't want to regret when everyone else was doing it, that i didn't do it. best decision ever. i LOVED this race. i'm not kidding. LOVED it. i loved all of the people i knew who were doing it that i saw out there through the day. i loved the swim. i loved the bike course. i loved the crowd support on the run. i LOVED it. this was incredibly run. it was incredibly staffed with volunteers. there was plenty of everything at each aid station. it couldn't have been a better put together race. amazing!! i am also aware that we got VERY lucky with our weather. we had cloud cover and very little wind compared to what it could have been. we were really lucky. this race had potential to be a lot tougher with heat, humidity and wind but 5.21.11 was not one of those days. thankfully!! :) i think the highlight of this whole experience is the fact that i raced with

  • Comments: While my time wasn't what I trained or raced for it was a great race. As time goes on this will probably be my favorite race because of the circumstances and obstacles that occurred during the day. The last year has been interesting to say the least. 9 days before IMFL10, I broke my toe and ended up having surgery instead of going to the race. I spent the months of November and December recovering and doing a lot of aqua jogging. Started training again in January with the goal of beating my previous IMFl09 finishing time and making it to race day in one piece. A month prior to the IMTX, I sent my coach an email asking about predicted race paces and finishing times. The times and paces that were sent back were not to my liking. In my return email, I told him IF i couldn't meet my time goals then I didn't even want to go to the race. It is a wonder my coach hasn't fired me by now. Thanks Shane for being so patient and always knowing the right thing to say. I calm down (for me)

  • Comments: Ironman Texas Race Report May 21, 2011 Todd Varney Goal: Sub 14 hours Finish: 12:51:09 Ave Heart Rate: 147 Rating of Event: A+ Rating of Volunteers: A+ Rating of Community Support: A+ I began my full training on December in my pursuit of completing Ironman Texas. My log shows that I completed 300 hours of training in the five months leading up to the event. I worked with Richard Wygand on an overall training plan to train and get my heart rate down and to have endurance. I also used Rick Slifkin and Doghouse Performance Cycling Center for technical advice and strategy. I remained relatively healthy and learned to live with a left knee that is always tender and a right shin that remains ultra sensitive after a stress fracture. In late April I began feeling confident after a 112 mile bike followed by a 21 mile run the following day. I was doing very well but then came my ten days of taper, and all the mind and body games began. My back got tight and it felt like every body part

  • Comments: Amazing volunteers!! Very well organized. Beautiful bike course. Spectator friendly and athlete inspiring 3 loop run course. Very seriously considering doing this again next year. I feel bad for those who were stopped on the bike at intersections.

  • Comments: For all the grief some people give WTC, they put on a great event. This is my third IM branded race (2 HIM's, and 1 IM) and I have been happy with the race organization at all 3. The city, volunteers, and all the spectators that lined the course made this a remarkable event and one I will remember for a lifetime!

Congratulations to all my friends who toed the line. Whether you finished or your day was cut short by circumstances beyond your control, you are a winner in my eyes!

  • Comments: Amazing. I see registration for 2012 is open. Thinking about signing up for it, or trying to get into a different one, either Coeur d'Alene, Florida, or Arizona. Keep the hills to a minimum :)

  • Overall course based on my ability: Too easy

  • Comments: I loved the race!!! Having done IM Louisville, IM MOO. and Lake Placid I would rate the bike as flat and fast. The hills are all easy and never required me to change to small ring or get out of my saddle. The wind was variable and occasional gusts. The heat was difficult (coming from Michigan) but I stayed well hydrated. Race support was awesome. The volunteers rocked!!!!!!! Crowd support was very good. I loved the 3 loop run course as it gave me more motivation to keep going each time we passed thru the cheering people in town.

  • Comments: I got through it, there is room for improvement and I will return to the Ironman distance. I am not in a hurry to come back to IMTX, but that too will fade with time and I will find my way back...maybe after another trip to IMFL or a visit to IMAZ or IMCdA.

  • Comments: I was surprised at the lack off food options and no recovery drink. I sure did not want anymore perform, cola, or water, Honey milk, muscle milk or chocolate milk would have been great! of course nothing compares to watching Mike riley call out an Ironman!!!!!

  • Comments: I really enjoyed this event, was my first Ironman so I have nothing to compare it to. Everything was done top notch and even though I suffered on my last loop of the run I'm very happy with the results. However, knowing that I could have run 9'/mi with my swim/bike splits would have gotten a Kona slot stings a little bit. I really hate having races that don't reflect fitness so who knows maybe another IM will be scheduled in the future...

  • Comments: Just like all the IM races, well oiled, organized meticulously and executed to perfection. I would change the direction of the bike course and reverse it because of the predominant winds from the South in the area. There's more tree cover at the end if you changed the direction of the course. I would make sure that everybody is in the water on time to fire the cannon at 7.

  • Comments: the only reason I wouldn't do this again is because of the weather - too damn cold in CO for a spring race and too hot to actually race in w/out living in Houston.
