  • Comments: OK, this was a PR but by far the easiest course on all 3 segments. I should be able to really improve on this next year. Triathlon season is over for me - I need to get back to running. Denver Marathon in October.

  • Comments: I'm very pleased with my nutrition strategy. I made the whole race without any bonking from nutrition mistakes. I didn't have any stomach issues. I was very happy about that. On paper I thought I could go a lot faster, but this was my first HIM and I learned a lot about what this kind of race does to your body. It was a great experience and I definitely will be back next year to knock some time off my race time.

  • Comments: this is a great race. The bike course is a little boring but that is not unusual. They try to keep it relatively flat for the longer distance rather than making us go up Old Stage like in the Boulder Peak

  • Comments: One of the best run races anywhere. Definitely one of the most competitive and deep fields in the country. I love this race as an evaluator of my fitness level. 4 years ago I did this race in 5:14, the next year I DNF'd due to a flat at mile 40, last year I PR'd in 4:45:59 and this year I PR'd again: 4:40:28! I'm stoked even though I couldn't beat Mark or Dave.

  • Comments: Overall I had a fantastic first half-ironman. I was actually a little worried about the event cut-off times, but I passed those with flying colors (was showered and out hunting for food well before the run/event cut off). I accomplished things I didn't think I could do (expected to average 12-14 on the bike) and found many things that I can realistically improve on to have better races in the future (the run obviously, and also be MOP on the swim). I never stopped on the bike (which my husband who always kicks my butt when we ride together said he didn't think he could do) and as much as I wanted to stop on the run, I kept on going. Even when I was ridiculously slow and I was just passing 6.5 miles, all of the crowd was cheering for the finishers (finish shoot was right there) - it was definitely a mental challenge to hear everyone tell me I was almost there when I knew I wasn't even half way yet. I am really proud of finishing this race. I can't wait to do it again (ok, I can wait

  • Comments: I'll get this out first. I'm freaking super happy with my PR. Almost 20 minutes faster than I've ever gone for this distance. I feel like my swim and run are starting to come around, but I've still got a ways to go. This race has got me super amped for Ironman Arizona. I've had my mid-season break and I feel mentally ready to start logging the big mileage.

  • Comments: My first HIM. Every body part hurt but it's that good kind of hurt. The mental part was tougher. Starting in the first wave, after the pros, put me in a position where I did very little passing but got passed quite often. Those young fast kids were flying by me all day long. Struttin' their stuff. I love them for it. I was trying to strut mine too. I had to keep reminding myself to race my own race at a pace I could handle so I wouldn't blow up. That was difficult at times. My goal was to survive and hopefully cross the finish line under 7 hours. I did it. I'm pretty dang excited about that. I have to mention two ladies I saw briefly during the race. One, a 61 year old, pedaled effortlessly past me on the bike, leaving me in her dust. The other, a 60 year old, quietly moved ahead of me somewhere around mile 10 of the run. I never caught her. Old in years but young in spirit. I want to be just like them when I grow up.

  • Comments: Much better run race than the Peak. Aid stations were awesome and lots of ice on the run!

  • Comments: 5430 puts on a great race. Their volunteer groups were amazing - dressed up in costumes, being super loud and friendly and encouraging. The water at the aid stations was nice and cold this time (after being hot and gross at the Boulder Peak tri). I loved the bike course because it was fast and interesting (except for the annoying little out-and-back added to make the course exactly 56 miles). I also appreciated that 5430 makes an effort to switch up their wave orders throughout the 5430 series. F30-34 always seems to be the next-to-last wave in nearly every triathlon I do, and it was nice to be third for once!

  • Comments: Awesome event! I'm happy with my results. First HIM for me and I've gone from being able to walk 10 feet after my spinal fusion 1.75 years ago to completing a half marathon (after the swim/bike). My run leg was terrible but that will change soon.

  • Comments: Another PR! Great weather for the race, and faster times than last year in all phases other than the swim (where I gave back about a minute or two). 2006 / 2007 / 2008 Swim - 40:04 / 38:49 / 40:06 T1 - 3:31 / 1:48 / 1:29 Bike - 2:53:53 / 2:38:37 / 2:34:25 T2 - 2:59 / 1:30 / 1:03 Run - 2:01:45 / 1:52:02 / 1:48:39 Overall - 5:42:14 / 5:12:47 / 5:05:40
