  • Comments: This is a good race by MTS-VTS. I was hoping to break 5:20. I think if I really train well and get a flatter course, I may even have a 5 hour half in me. I need to work on open water swimming and try to figure out how to get faster on the bike.

  • Comments: Great race Overall – PR. I’m happy with my swim and bike. I’m very unhappy with my run – it was below average performance wise, however I’m happy with how I handled the cramps and GI issues. I thought that my day was over during the initial onset of cramps, then I didn’t know what to expect with the GI issues. Going into the race, I thought I should have a very good shot at making the podium. Obviously I cannot control who shows up. I ran my race and even If I had a good run, I feel that the best run I could have thrown down yesterday would have been 1:34 which still would have left me off the podium. After driving the bike course on Friday, I was skeptical of breaking 2:30 – so again I’m happy with the bike. Takeaways – In my opinion one of three things caused me to blow up on the run: 1) over-bike, 2) nutrition off; 3) hydration off. 1) I don’t think I over-biked.
