Comments: This was simply the best of the best. Everything was done with an incredible amount of professionalism and attention to detail. The volunteers were absolutely incredible- I think they took a training course, or something, because they were seriously perfect. The course itself is stunning in its stark beauty. The ocean is the most gorgeous I've been in. The bike course has LAVA, the ocean, the mountains, and a brutal countryside to destroy your spirits. The run course is, well, unrelenting- no really hard climb, just heat, more heat and no escape from the radiating heat, except to lull you into a walk. It's Ironman Hawaii- it is the world championship. The level of talent here blew my mind more than anything else. Every single person is one of the best in the world, and on race day, they really were- everyone was incredibly fast- I am still in awe of the incredible talent at Kona. What an experience!

Comments: They had 5,000 volunteers and they were awesome! So encouraging and would do anything for you. I am happy with my first ironman experience.

Comments: Well, this wasn't my greatest performance but it wasn't my worst performance either. This is, after all, Kona, and I'm racing with the best in the world in some unbelievable conditions. I kept hearing about the heat and wind and how tough they are. Let's just say the wind didn't disappoint. It was downright scary and I was just happy to stay on my bike. I've already been asked by a few people what's next? The next couple years will be focused on my family as I stick to sprints, Olys, and HIM. My oldest son is a Junior and he'll be off to college in a couple years. I plan on enjoying EVERY football and baseball game. My younger son is in 8th grade and I plan on doing the same with him. And, my wife and I will be enjoying Friday nights and some easy rides together on Saturday mornings. Oh, I'll be racing again in Kona in a few years and when I do my goals will be VERY high. I learned a lot about how to race this course and while the results weren't exactly what I expected I

Comments: So, what happened? So many thoughts are going through my head as I commit this to writing 32,000 feet above the Pacific. To begin with, let me address my original time and placement goals as this is the first time I have totally missed the mark. My estimate of a 9:20 to 9:30 finish was based off my IMAZ time vs. Kona in 2007. I was 3 min. faster that year in Hawaii so I felt if I could replicate that, I had a legitimate chance to go sub 9:30. Also, last year 9:22 won the AG. This year, 9:20 was 5th! I am amazed they went that much faster, although the run course conditions were excellent with not a lot of wind and some cloud cover. I wasn't ready to go that fast this year even on a perfect day. 9:08 won it...good grief. My training this year has been massive to say the least. My race results coming into Hawaii have been the best they have ever been. Everything was looking very good up until I developed the issue's in my right hip/leg. The final 5 weeks of my run training was compromised
