  • Overall course based on my ability: Just right

  • Comments: The water stops were plentiful, but the early ones were poorly located. The first couple were on both sides of a narrow road and that ended up being a choke point for runners.

  • Comments: Needed a better post-race transportation plan. The Metro stations near the finish line are PACKED and the last thing my muscles needed was to stand in place for an hour! That hurt worse than anything else. Plus, hundreds of post-race runners did not smell like roses. It would have been worth it to walk an extra mile or two back to the Pentagon and skip the Rosslyn station. But overall, GREAT race and experience! Very scenic, lots of volunteers, and tons of crowd support. Even a few supporters on the lonely stretch around miles 17-19, which was fantastic.

  • Comments: Perfect running weather and a great course. Well organized (despite others' complaints about aid stations). Crowded, of course, but this is a big-city mega-marathon--if you want isolation, go run the Marathon de Sables!

  • Comments: Excellent organization all the way around. From sign-up to the finisher's festival, everything was top notch. The Marines know how to do it right!

  • Comments: Loved the Marines on the course as well as those Marines running for their fallen commrades. I also had the honor of running next to the Marines carrying the flags. Very inspiring and humbling.

  • Comments: MCM is just the most fun race I've done all year. I can't wait to do it again. I'll do this one every year, it's just awesome. Great scenery, great atmosphere, great crowds, just an awesome time and a super great race.

  • Comments: MCM is awesome. The scenery, the crowds and of course the Marines are all incredible. My only real knock is that the steepest hill is the last 1/10 of a mile to the finish. Then again, this is the Marine Corps I guess they figure a little extra pain at the end is a good thing.

  • Comments: The one thing that bothered me about the course was the bottlenecks; there were several water stations where traffic just seemed to stop and I couldn't run even if I wanted to. There were also quite a few areas where the spectators seemed to be slowly closing in on the road and the police and Marines had to push them back to the sidewalk. Other than that, the race was managed extremely well, which is to be expected from the Marine Corps. The volunteers were polite and seemed happy to be there (and there was plenty of "eye candy" along the course!) Overall I think it was a great race, and DC is a wonderful place to run.

  • Comments: The Marines know how to organize an event. This race has grown in the ten years since I last did it, but it was still as organized and top notch an event as it was 10 years ago. The course has changed in spots, some for the better, some for the worse, but overall it is an amazing course. The Marines and volunteers were awesome. The crowds were awesome. On this day, the weather was awesome. Of the 10 marathons I've run, my two favorite races have been the 1997 Marine Corps Marathon, and the 2007 Marine Corps Marathon.

  • Comments: This is an awesome race, one of my favorites. The course is great, the crowd support is incredible and the whole thing is so well run and organized. I would encourage anyone thinking about a marathon to consider this race.

  • Comments: All in one, it was a great race and I am looking forward to doing it again next year. I will focus more on both my pace and my nutrition plan. With the same type of training, I think I can go 3:35 or below. We'll see...

  • Comments: I am now a Marathoner! I'm pleased that I stuck to my plan of walking the water stations only - I never walked because is was tired. The long training runs helped me realize I needed more fuel during the run - I stuck to my plan of Perpetuem at the top of every hour and a Gu at the bottom of every hour (I was hoping I didn't need that Gu around 4:30, but I did).

  • Comments: The Marine Corps Marathon has a reputation for being a well put on race for good reason. From the Expo to the race to the post-race the Marines do a great job. Every time I was really feeling down there were Marines there cheering for me. I will definitely do this race again.
