  • Comments: Well, I really enjoyed the race and all of the things the organizers did to provide a top notch event. I wouldn't say I was wow-ed by it all but I can definitly appreciate all the gear, shwag, and course ammenities that were provided. You just can't beat having a Q&A with Olympic medalists and pro's so close and available to anyone with a question to ask. I met Sarah Groff, Javier Gomez, Greg Bennett, and the legend, Paula Newby Fraser! Also, I literally ran into Matty Reed on Court Street as he was making his way to the lake for the mens elite start. Having met him in Chicago last year it was just really cool seeing him again and wishing him a good race. They were all so approachable and actually getting to "hang" with them was not something you get to do everyday. I was looking forward to seeing Macca again but it just didn't happen. Oh well, he's still "the man" in my book.

  • Comments: Excellent race. If I get the chance to come back here again I will. The organization and the volunteers did an amazing job. I was actually surprised by the number of volunteers that came out for this event and the jobs they did and the way the race organizers had them utilized. Also, this race had some cool swag. I don't know if I've ever come away from an event and actually had swag that I intended on keeping and using (full backpack, visor, bike jersey, etc.).

  • Comments: Great race. Very well supported and very organized. However, I must say this year was very crowded given the amount of relay teams allowed to participate. I hope they put a lower cap on it next year.

  • Comments: This is a great race- AG race or Championships. For the money (about the same as some very average local races) it is head and shoulders above anything else I have done. Only other race that comes close is Malibu Triathlon- but you get a lot more swag at this event.

  • Comments: Outstanding race, with outstanding volunteers and participants. Only concerns were the lack of available swim warm up, and more concerning was the lack of security at bike pick up after. My friends and I walked right out of transition with our $12K of equipment with no one checking our race number bands.

  • Comments: Hy Vee does a great triathlon. This is easily the premiere event I get to participate in. Getting 9th in my AG allows me to run in the 5150 Championship next year and I will be there hell or high water. I was very happy with all stages of my race and will always promote this event to my tri club. Things to think of next year: Have a better strategy to get from Capital back to Gray's Lake. Maybe Stacey can drive the car back to downtown and park at the Bar Association lot. Great spot that is close to the condo Nick and Amber stay at. Easy way to get back to transition then. Need to give Stacey my cell phone after transition closes. Not sure what I will do if I can't find her though. Figure out a better plan for after event real food. Jimmy Johns was a good idea too. Great job Hy Vee.!!!!!!

  • Comments: I can't give this an honest assessment since this is only my 3rd tri and first Olympic-distance. Everyone says it is one of the best in the country - guess I have to do some more next year that are outside of Iowa to compare for myself! I had a great time, right up until the shuttle back to transition. I could have walked back faster - and that's not an exaggeration. A few hundred of us had to wait as the sun beat down on us for nearly 90 minutes for the shuttle buses to arrive. Apparently they got caught in the mass-exodus of the parking lot back at the start area. One would think that one of the best tris in the country would have this sort of thing figured out by now. But if that's the only criticism, then that's not too bad of a day at all. I'll definitely be back next year.

  • Comments: Awesome race. I am so pumped about this race. I was really trying to break 2:30; I had no idea I was going to break 2:27. This race keeps getting better and better. The organization is great, the volunteers are great, the spectators are great. Coming back next year to try for 2:20.

  • Comments: This was a great race and I’m glad I chose this race to be both my A race and my last race. After reviewing my times I managed to set a new personal record for both the swim and the bike! When I do reenter the triathlon world I will be back to challenge my times on this wonderful course.

  • Comments: Hotel wasn't close to course. Needed to rent car. Organization of start poor since too many people not in immediate waves mixed in until moments before begin.
