I have just moved to the city, im 19, found a job, and im looking forward to buying a new tri bike n wetzoot!! (cervelo p2c or p2sl, or quintana lucero lite)

On the other hand....nutrition is going to be a big factor as i continue my training through winter. Just got back from the grocery store i was hired at, and i was looking at the baby food.

for 31 cents a jar you get 26g carbohydrates....and a frikin huge selection of flavours. Good amount of b vitamins, and decent levels of sugar.

Im wondering if there is anything in baby food that would harm a full grown person?

Is it ok to replace energy gels and powerbars, and maybe morning snack with this awesome, cheap alternative!!

Although i doubt it because nutrition at such a young age is very important...but uh yeah

will anything hurt my stomach? drain or raise certain levels in my body?...or is this the best idea you have ever heard for a financially hurtin triathlete!!?

 p.s, chocolate milk rocks

I was reading in this month's issue of either "Bicycling" or "Runner's World" that a study was done that shows that athletes who drank Chocolate Milk as a recovery drink instead of commercially available recovery beverage had a significant improvement in recovery and performance.

Curious to hear the answers about the baby food.

I'm no endurance sports historian, but I do belive that baby food was popular nutritional supplement before the invention of gels, bars, etc.

I would imagine that you can find all natural baby food (I would hope all of it is) that would be safe for anyone. Take a look at the ingredients and nutrtional breakdown, then compare it to your nutritional needs during training

Baby food is just regular food that is mashed up for easy consumption and digestion.  Very few, if any, added flavors or spices ... baby tummies need smooth and bland.

Personally, I'd rather eat some peas than some mashed baby food peas, but that's just me.  And after two kids, I can tell you that the baby food bananas, carrots and apple/blueberry blend are pretty good

Look at the ingredients and stick to baby food that has just natural ingredients.  I was on a baby food kick for a while but only the fruit stuff.  I'm not about to eat pureed peas but applesauce, pear sauce, blueberry apple sauce, etc is all good stuff.

Baby food wouldn't harm you...the little ones are more sensitive than you.

However, I'm not sure you'll be saving yourself any money. I made my own baby food for a while to SAVE money and reduce waste. It really don't take a lot of time as long as you create the food in bulk.  Think about how many jars of baby food you would have to eat to really fuel yourself.  26 g of CHO is really only 100 calories.

If you prefer your food mashed, here's a link for instructions on making baby food:

Yeah the hassle of jars and glass is kinda a big deal, but the whole 31 cent thing really caught my eye. I would bring a pack sack, and store the litter in there, then maybe after start mashing my own foods and re-use the jars to really save money.....which is the whole idea here.

Baby food, that's a great idea! YOu can find fantastic deals on baby food too and get it for free if you shop the right way...hmm, I'm gonna have to consider this.

And call me crazy but I never thought baby food tasted half bad either (I try everything before I feed it to my babies!).

It's all natural...

The babies have it made when it comes to the fruits...they are awesome!  They are much easier on my stomach than actual fruit.
