I'm excited b/c I know I'm about to learn something! For yrs now, I've plugged in the "22 - age" formula into my heart-rate-monitor & trained from that (eg, 60% of MHR for recovery workouts). Is this wrong?
That formula pretty much sucks. According to it, my max HR would be 179 when that's actually my run LT. Don't use one. If you really want to know your max HR, do a field test. But better, do a LT test and use that for your training zones. |
