I see that people mention sunscreen a lot when talking about what is need for racing and training. What kind do you all use? I find that I sweat soooo much when I use it, that I can't stand it! My whole body sweats and I feel hotter than usual. Has anyone found a good one?

I like coppertone sport spray-on.  I find the spray on varieties generally feel a little "sticky" at the start, but after I am moving I don't notice it at all.

I used to use Banana Boat, because it was a good price for the volume my husband and I use.  However, an article in Consumer Reports this year was showing the BB brand as less effective than some others.  I remember Neutrogena was a good brand.

It's important to follow the package instructions and put on the sunblock 30 mins before sun exposure, or it will wear off and not provide the same protection.  This helps it to soak in, especially if you're a heavy sweater.    Also, wearing suncreen will help you to stay cooler in the end.  It's not as good as being in the shade, but it has similar effect.

In general, this works fine for me and I have good sun protection, and I am generally soaked after a workout.  The only time I have issues is in a triathlon swim with my wet suit.  Then a reapplication in T1 is necessary, and I still end up with too much sun during a race.

I like the Coppertone Sport.  You spray it on, so your hands don't get messy, and it goes on dryer than most other sprays, and a lot dryer than the lotions.  It's more expensive and a bottle doesn't last as long as it looks like it should.  If you put it on while wet, it just looks like you sprayed milk on yourself, and it runs off.

I also use Coppertone Sport SPF 50, but the regular cream. I used to use the spray, but you get a better, more even, and heavier application with the cream IMO.

There is actually a concern now that people are not getting enough sunlight and it is causing some Vitamin D deficiencies.  So it is sometimes actually better to put on the sunscreen at the time you go out, assuming you are not going directly into the water or start sweating right away (which will wash it off).  This way, you get at least 10-15 minutes of sunlight on the skin to make vitamin D, and by then the sunscreen will have been absorbed and prevent further UV damage/exposure.

That's hilarious!  I used my son's Huggies Lil Swimmers sunscreen for my first tri (a sprint) at the last minute b/c I had run out of my "grown up" sunblock and it worked so well, it's all I use now.
