Subject: RE: Carry spare tire with you???What we did before cellphones was...... Carry a tire boot of some sort. A boot is a piece of some reasonably sturdy material that will keep the tube from poking through a cut in the tire and allow you to ride a little further Dollar bills work, as do powerbar wrappers or GUpack wrappers, duct tape will do it too. Sometimes a piece of debris from the side of the road will work. The truly hardcore will carry a short section of an old tire that has been cut from the bead. To use it, position the boot on the inside of the tire (between the tube and the tire) over the cut. Keeping the boot positioned while reassembling the tire and tube is a bit tricky, but a bit of patience will get you there. Then reinflate the tire as normal (maybe a little less pressure than normal). It ain't pretty, but it beats walking or having to call for a ride. |
