Anyone use the Strassburg sock to help with Plantar Fasciitis?  If so, what are your opinions on effectiveness?

I've been looking at that too.  I think it will help with the symptoms, especially the painful first steps in the morning, but it won't address the root cause of the problem.

I had a minor case of it last fall.  Used the sock for about a week and thought it worked pretty good.  It felt SOOO good to stretch that tendon out in the bottom your foot.  I slept with it a couple nights and had no issues with it.

I dont use mine anymore.  If you want one, Ill sell you mine for $20.  I think its the large size, though Ill have to double check.  Let me know if your interested.

I've been wearing it for over a year now.  Like another poster said, it probably won't fix the cause, but can really help.  Can't hurt, right?

Mine definitely helps with the first few steps in the morning.  My coach recently told me he thinks the "half cast" type splint works better though.  I had one of those from my first bount with plantar fasciitis from 5 or 6 years ago so I'm trying that now.

The only problem I find with both is that sometimes during the night my foot starts to hurt really badly.  I think it's because the splints/sock cut off some circulation somehow.  I will often rip the thing off in the middle of the night if it's me off...

I battled plantar fasciitis in both feet for 2 years.  I tried different running shoes, inserts, stretching, ice, rolling my foot on a golf ball, homemade version of the Strassburg sock.  Here's what worked;  cortisone shot and stop running for 6 months.

I did the shot into the heel too. Hurt like hell but it worked great! Got through most of my summer. I also have and use the sock. I believe it does as advertised. I sleep with it but usually rip it off at some point in the night.

I've worn it nearly every night for a year or so now. Still have the PF. The sock is more comfortable than the hard splint that I wore previously, but as others said, occasionally it bothers me enough that I'll rip it off in the middle of the night.

This is my second bout with PF, the first was in my left foot, cortisone shot and six months without running did the trick. It was during those six months that I first took up cycling.

This time, right foot, now going on two years. I've tried stretching, icing, deep tissue massage, physical therapy, cortisone shot, sleeping every night with a brace or the sock, various insoles, and periods of no running over fourteen months, but the pain continued. Back in March I started taping the foot before running and have good success with that. PF is still there, but symptoms and pain is minor, not getting worse when i run like it was doing pre-taping. I've been able to ramp up my distance and intensity enough to schedule three half marathons this winter and to start thinking about a spring marathon.

Thank you all for the input.  Not thinking of that sock as a cure, just a means to have morning feet that are not so tender as that seems to affect the desire for a morning run (leaving more time at night to take care of house chores).

I did the cortisone shot too after suffering for almost a year. It hurt like heck at the time but within a few months I was back training and have had no more trouble since.

My doc "froze" my foot before injecting it. He also used a Cortico / Xylacaine mix in the injection. No pain.

Well you were lucky then! When they did mine initially the door was open in the consulting room where the doctor did the injection, then the nurse saw me start to writhe around a bit and closed the door. I image she was thinking I was about to scream from the pain and didn't want the other patients in the office to hear it

I recently had a cortisone shot for my PF. It worked pretty well for about 3 weeks, then the pain came back with a vengeance and now it hurts just as bad as it did before I got the shot. I'm currently awaiting for my custom orthotics to arrive. I've tried practically everything that has been covered in this thread, and I'm running out of options. If these orthotics don't help, I'm not really sure what is left for me try...other than surgery, which is something I don't even want to think about right now.
