Ok, so I know it is a long shot (and I am prepared to do a community fund spot or an independent race if necessary), but I am planning to sign-up for IMFL online.

I am ready to stalk active.com, but I have heard there is an art to it.  Anyone care to share the registration tips?  Given that this race will sell out in minutes IF there are any spots avaialble I want to get this right!

Thanks so much!

Last year I was deciding how to get signed up for this years race.  My wife says, "why don't you just drive down, volunteer, then sign up on site the next day."  It was a 12 hour drive, and I just arrived the day before, volunteered the day of, signed up the day after and drove 12 hours home.  Well worth the peace of mind, and a cool whirl wind of a weekend!  Just my 2 cents!

I know and if it was possible I would, but honestly it would cost me less to do the community fund spot.  My company will match so I only have to write a check for half of the donation amount.  Plus, the community fund spots are transferable to a future race.

I just don't want to screw up the online sign-up if I can avoid it!

Join Active.com and fill out all of the personal information ahead of time. Have a look through all of the application and have all of your answers prepared ahead of time. Skip questions that are optional. Start hitting "submit" 5 minutes before they are scheduled to open. Use a PC with a fast connection. Have friends trying to submit at the same time as you are, but keep them on the phone so you don't end up with multiple entries. Lastly, decide that you probably won't get in and that is not that important. This is how I got into Florida this year

In addition to community fund spots, you can also get a spot by going to multisport.com and signing up for a training plan plus race entry fee. A third way is to do the Florida 70.3 and hang around after the wards cermony. They usually have entries into the IM races.

The other general stuff has been covered; the only other thing I'd add is to sign in to Active.com at least 15 minutest ahead of when registration is supposed to open and keep hitting refresh every 30 seconds. It has usually opened 5-10 minutes prior to the official opening time.

I have never heard of the multisport.com option - I went to the website but did not see anything, please share!

That is a little steep for me but that is not a bad option if you can't get in online. I can't believe I've never heard of that option before...as much talk as there is about entering these events I've never heard anything about this...I'm actually amazed! How long has this been around?

Multisports.com is run by Rock Fry, Pual Huddle and their wives (you may have heard of them - PNF and Heather Fuhr).

All 4 are tied tight with WTC as is Competitor Magazine so it is pretty easy for them to get some slots at any one of the IMs.

I only learned about this option this past summer when I was thinking about doing IMLP next year.

This is definitely good to know - I can't believe I had not heard of it after all of the research I have done.  It looks like the community fund spot would be kinder to my wallet though!

Thanks for the tips for Active.com, if it is my birthday present to myself I have to get in!

I had all my info set up on Active.com and was in front of the computer 15 min. before reg. opened. I had no problem reg. online! But, the site did open about 5 min. early so be in front of your computer and keep a close eye on things. Good luck

Just an extra plug for multisports.com---that's how I got in last year and it was great. The guys who run MS are really nice, funny, smart and accessible. Plus, when I registered I also registered for their camp and it was a perfect training opportunity to ride/run the course ahead of the race. Probably the highlight of my training program. If you don't get in online via general entry, email or call the multisports guys and talk to them about their program. It's solid.

Good luck getting in, one way or another!

1. Yes, everyone is right...it WILL probably open a few minutes early.  Seriously, you'd better at AT your computer hitting refresh with 15 minutes to go.

2. Yes, put all your personal info in prior, be logged in, etc. etc.  But no one has mentioned HAVE YOUR USAT CARD HANDY.  I don't think it saves your USAT number.  Someone correct me if I'm wrong...but I don't remember it ever keeping that data.  So, if you have your USAT card handy you can type it in quick rather than scramble to look for it.

Good luck!
