New user 15 Littleton, CO | Subject: Parker Fall FrenzyGetting jitters for my first tri - Parker Fall Frenzy this Sunday. Still got a long way to go in the training aspect...maybe I'll be ready by the time my second tri comes around...when and if. Gotta finish this one first! Still trying to decide what to eat, when to eat, how to prepare mentally because this brain sure knows how to talk me out of anything. And how to train this week don't want to go overboard but need to do something. I'm just hoping to finish. How do you get through your first tri..and I'm going from sofa spud to this in 3 months. Long way to go still, not the fit thin queen you shall invision me as! |

I don't have much experience (2 Tri for the Cure's and theCrescent Moon coming up) but I can tell you that if you go out there to have fun, you will! I will never be fast but I have a great time and try to improve from race to race and for me that's what it's all about. Have a great time and let us know how it goes! |

Veteran 209![]() ![]() Wyoming | Subject: RE: Parker Fall FrenzyHi, I will be there on Sunday and it will be my 2nd tri. I did one in Cheyenne in June My training has slipped off considerably since then, but I want to get in one more before the -09 season ends. I completely agree with the other post...have fun! That is what this is all about for those of us who are not looking to become professionals! On my first tri, I followed my training plan and did no activity Thurs, Fri and Sat, racing on Sun. I felt like it was too much time off, so this time I will be doing light workouts at least through Thurs. May do some core work on Friday, travel on Sat, then race on Sun. I also suggest that you check out the course. If you can, go swim in the pool, ride or drive the bike, walk or run the 5K. I did this for the Cheyenne sprint and it made me so much more confident because I could visualize everything as it was. If you can't do this, then I would recommend looking at it on the map. I spent about 30 min yesterday on google maps looking at the bike course, thinking about the turns, etc. I also plan to drive the course on Sat. If you haven't done any T1, T2 practice then I also recommend that....not because we have to be super speedy but for confidence. Before mine, I just set up a little Tzone in my yard. I ran around the yard to my bike, practiced T1, grabbed my bike, made a quick loop around the yard, then back and did T2. I realized a few things about my setup that didn't work and changed them. I think I ran through it 3 or 4 times that day and it gave me a lot of confidence. Eating..well, not much advice there cuz I haven't figured all that out either. I have been told time and again to not change anything. Hope that helps! See you Sunday! I have short hair and will be wearing a black/turquoise dots tri top and black tri shorts with a turquoise stripe on them. I am in the 50-54 AG. Sharie |

New user 15 Littleton, CO | Subject: RE: Parker Fall FrenzyThanks RanchRunner for the transition hints...I think I'll have to practice that. I rode the course last week and it definately gave me confidence...tho my time did not, but I was ultra paranoid about cars and there were semis so I was riding on the sidewalk and in two places the sidewalk just ended...so I spent a lot of time stopped at intersections, checking double checking traffic, but it was a nice course, tried to run over a few prairie dogs - not really but they were all over the place and missed a few dead snakes...ick. I swam in open water this weekend and I'm recovering from bronchitis and the amount of coughing and crud in my throat was not pretty..so that gave me pause and concern for actually putting all three together. I have done some brick workouts, actually did my own mini tri, 12 laps, 8 mile bike, 2 mile walk and the next day started the 3 week cold from hell. I will be dressed in a black/pink/white tri suit and will bike/ride with a bright pink top and run with a black skirt. My age group is 35-39 but I signed up for the Athena division. Managed to lose a few pounds this summer but not enough so I'd rather not race against the tiny muscular gals. I'm all about having fun...but my idea of fun is a more leisurely pace, I think the runners could pass me on my bike! So I'll just have to put forth the energy and ramp it up! Off to see Gym....he and I have an off again on again relationship.... |

As you complete more tris (and you will), you'll start figuring out where you can improve and how to pace yourself, etc. |

Master 1730![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Straight outta Compton | Subject: RE: Parker Fall FrenzyGood luck!!! Fall Frenzy is a really fun race, and it's also a perfect race to try for a first timer! Just have fun, enjoy the experience, and make a race report when you are done. I guarantee you'll be hooked on the sport and you'll learn a lot by writing down what you did, where you went wrong, and what you can do better. I'd be out there with you guys but I'm tapering for an event next Saturday.... I'll be out there cheering all of you on though! |

New user 15 Littleton, CO | Subject: RE: Parker Fall FrenzyStill nervous, haven't slept all week thinking about this...but super great news for me! I was out for a swim at the local rec center and the woman in the lane next to me said I was fast! Well for my first time fast may be relative. But 5 weeks ago my time was still 20 minutes so I didn't change it. Now I've timed myself and if I counted laps correctly I'm at 15-16 minutes. Not really fast like you 7.5 minute bums, but faster than 20 minutes! She totally made my day! I'm a true beginner triathlete!...well once Sunday comes around it will be official. |

Veteran 209![]() ![]() Wyoming | Subject: RE: Parker Fall FrenzyWTG on the swim time! You will feel totally amazing after finishing on Sunday and knowing you can now call yourself a TRIATHLETE!! That is what helped me to relax before my tri....the knowledge that it didn't matter how I did...it just mattered that I DID! I could relax and enjoy knowing that I was accomplishing a dream. See ya Sunday! |

New user 15 Littleton, CO | Subject: RE: Parker Fall FrenzyWhat a fantastic race! What a wonderful community of people! Everyone was so friendly and cheerful and encouraging! Rocked on the swim (for me) 11.5 minutes...not so much on the bike, that wind wasn't very helpful even on the downhills! Then the run had some major shin splints so I really just walked it which is what I had planned anyway...but oh what fun and I'm hooked. Time to train for next year...just give me a week before I can walk again, my hips are hurting something awful! Hubby did the duathlon and I think I might get him in the pool next year! |

Veteran 209![]() ![]() Wyoming | Subject: RE: Parker Fall FrenzyI thought I posted Monday night when I got home from Parker....guess not. I looked and looked for you TBWB - I even asked a few ladies if they were you. Did you get an email today about pictures? Wanna share your bib number cuz it would be fun to look you up and see if I remember seeing you that day. What time did you swim? I was at about 9:45am. Anyway...congrats on the fine race and that you are now a Triathlete! I left home before Lauren posted so missed getting to meet her. I think I remember the pink bike. Sharie |
