Anyone else thinking about doing this one? I'm waffling on whether I want to sign up.

I know you're anti-Ironhead now, but I'm doing the Prairieman sprint. I much prefer Jack's races over DSU's. Much less an open water swim, though I'm much faster in a pool.

What about that new Wise Tri? You can do the Oly there which may be a better tune-up sort of race for Longhorn for you rather another sprint tri.

I'm doing this race along with my wife. However, the main reason is b/c it's close to home. I've also heard good things about the UNT pool. It will be my first race since July 4th, so I'm looking forward to it.

You know, if this was 30 miles closer I'd be all over it. It looks like an interesting venue, but sweet jebus is it far away.

Argh, now I'm waffling on this one too.

This is going to be my last race before the Toyota Int Oly Length Tri in October. This is a lot closer than the Loyd Park Tri's in Grand Prarie. I can at least sleep at home to go to this one. Denton is only 50min away from Me. It was a toss up between this one and the Prairie man.....

The course looks fairly Flat but Lots of Turns? I hope I don't get lost on the Bike or Run.. LOL...

Look for the Guy on a White Iron Horse Road Bike.

See Ya'll there

this one will be my first ever Tri.  Really looking forward to it.  Still not sure exactly what to expect but I've watched every frickin video on this site so I feel like have at least somewhat of a clue.  However, if you see me running down the road with my blue specialized helmet still on...throw something at me please!!! I thought about this, then I looked at the packet pick-up info.  Typical DA.  I am all for visiting their sponsors to pick up, and Bikes Plus in Coppell is not far but...pickup only there today until 3.  Well, I work all day. Saturday I am not going to drive up to an Albertsons in Denton and then back to Denton Sunday.  Why can they not have some location in the Ft. Worth area on Friday?  Or have pick-up later on Thursday or again in Coppell on Friday.  I can't understand their logic

Seems like we did this discussion before - never done a DA race, but doesn't sound like they listen to their participants too well...  There are too many races in town to put up with disregard for your customers.  (IMO anyway...)

When I sit down to do next years race schedule I will do my best to stay away from DA races. Would rather be in a well run race and listen to a ranting RD than have poor packet pickup and bad timing.

I have to agree, I mean the Wise Tri is in friggin' Bridgeport and they still managed to have a packet pick-up in Plano.

Surprise, Surprise, results are still not posted from this race yesterday. Anyone know where to find them? The website says they will be posted within 24 hours. I guess I should give them a few more hours. It was a fun race. I love competing in the rain.

Consider Wise Tri next year.  Seriously!

  • The drive wasn't bad at all.  From Plano it was less than 90 minutes.
  • It's got both Sprint and Olympic.  (Seems Olympics are getting harder to find.)
  • It's a charity event.  The Race Director doesn't take money from it; it's all donated.
  • Tons of volunteers.  Each one had a sheet of the race numbers and athletes, so I was constantly being cheered by name throughout the run.
  • Offroad run -- different than most events you get to do (but you don't need a mountain bike like Xterra races).
  • Awesome giveaways after the event:  a mountain bike, a car bike rack, two unrestricted tickets for Southwest Airlines, 4 tickets to a Rangers game (including parking!)
  • No shortage of pizza, Zone Bars, bananas, or Gatorade after the race.
  • Timed by Run Far -- results were up that afternoon.  ;-)

I heard really good things about this race, too. Nice to have another Olympic distance, and open water sprint, in the area. And the RD's are active triathletes too, so that usually bodes well for race quality.

Methinks DFW triathletes have gotten awfully soft if they won't consider driving 90 mins to a race. Sheesh!
