Subject: I need TAPER advice for 1st marathon

I have a very important question on tapering correctly for my first marathon. Two weekends back included my longest distance run, a steady, flat 22 miler. Last weekend was an 18-mile trail run with lots of elevation gain. This Saturday is a flat century ride (I'm actually much more of a cyclist so it should be no strain)...and then the following weekend 10/12 is the Marathon.

Any suggestions on how to deal with during-the-week workouts would be more than appreciated. When I was in my build phase I would normal do one 10-14 mile run mid-week + 5-6 miles 2-3x/week. I have no idea how to taper so any comments are welcome. I would hate to incur an injury or mess up all this work right at the end (or the beginning of the adventure, as it were), thanks everyone in advance.

Well, it sounds like you are not following a specific plan, otherwise you would not be doing a century a week before the race!

There is nothing you can do in the last week that will make any bit of difference on race as far as improvement goes.  You really just want to get a few shorter runs in to keep the legs fresh and moving.  But there are plenty of things you can do to screw it up .......
