I am 5'10". I think that the frame looks big in those pics, in reality it is not that huge. My roadie is a 56cm and my tri bike a 54cm. I would say this is around 58 cm just guessing. The top tube just barely grazes my junk when I stand over it, but it feels just perfect when I ride. It has a short stem on it, the reach is less than my roadie and it is a size bigger. The pedaling action feels like a perfect fit for me and the BB and drive train are silky smooth. This is strictly a fun bike, I plan to keep it up just to cruise around on from time to time.

Defiantly keeping those reflectors!!!!! Weight? I have not put it on a scale but I would say 25-28 pounds? Strictly a guess. My other road bike is steel and it is significantly lighter than this Schwinn.

I ride a 1976 Jeunet.  The only thing still original is the frame.

Hey Nickster, my main roadie is a little newer than yours, but not much. It is an old GT frame that I have upgraded to STI shifters, went from 27" wheels to Mavic CXP23 700 cc rims and a 9 speed drivetrain (was 7 speed). Rides nice and has alot more character than a newer rig. Plus alot cheaper. I think I have some pics. I don't have the aero bars on it anymore since I now have a tri specific bike too, but other than that this is what she looks like.

I love the old style foam grips!!! I used to have those on a Motobecane in the late 70's or early '80's !! That is almost as cool as wearing Drakkar Noir!

Parr8hed, I'm jealous.  Mine was a 10 speed converted to 12.  I recently bought a "new" freewheel to replace my old Suntour Ultra 13-21.  The new one is a Suntour Ultra 13-28 so I can make it up hills.  I also converted from tubular to clincher tires.

sesh, he said he rode it alot, but it does not show. I wonder what his definition of alot is. I think that he just actually took care of it. You should have seen his garage, motorcycle and yard. All immaculate.

Nickster, it was quite a PITA to convert that GT to a modern 9 speed set up. Had to space out the rear stays and get the newer STI shifters. I used to have the downtube shifters like yours. I kept breaking spokes on the rear so I wanted to get a new rear wheel. But I had trouble finding a 27 inch freewheel type wheel so I went with the modern style freehub in 700cc. That was the spark that ignited a whole makeover. Luckily the same RD still worked with the newer shifters. I only have a 11-23 cassette on the rear, but I have a triple front so that gives me more than enough ammo to climb some pretty steep stuff.

That is a nice looking ride that you have there too.

Parr8hed, My bike originally had crummy Simplex components and the rims had "nubs" for higher friction.  I did a 3 week bike tour of Southern England in 1980 (all hills, all the time) and pretty much trashed the components and wore down the rims from braking.  In 1983, my college roommate was a biker racer and took my essentially unridable bike and replaced all the components with Campy parts, got new rims that he laced, and had the frame sand blasted and repainted from the original purple to fire engine red.  He even wrote to Reynolds and got replacement stickers for the frame.

Very nice nickster. That is a bike to be proud of for sure. I may take the GT completely apart soon and repaint her (paint is horrid) then re-lube, re-assemble everything. I am a big fan of old steel unless you are out there racing, etc. I don't use this bike for tris, just for club rides and hilly cruising rides.

If you have more pics of your bike I would love to see them.

I like it, great condition and totaly old school. Now you just need a mullett and Ratt concert t-shirt to ride it.

I don't think that I am gonna bastardise this one. I have a frame that is similar hanging on the wall right now that will soon be a fixie. It was not in nearly as good of shape as this one. I would not even need to swap out the rear wheel on this one to make it a fixie. I am gonna use the old wheelset off of GT that I have pics of in this post. The green one is way uglier than the blue one. i may have a pic of it somewhere too...

For the record, I dig lugged steel frames.

Great find.
