Hello all.  I'm fairly new and have only poked my head out in a few threads.  I thought I would just officially say hi.  I'm Joshua from the Madison/Sun Prairie area.

My buddy and I are training for a sprint in the April/May time frame but haven't found any that are set up for 2009 yet.  I have never done a sprint and am only a month in on my training.  My logs are open for anyone who wants to see and such.

Does anyone know a good sprint for two starters in the area?  We wouldn't mind traveling an hour or so if we had to.

Hello Joshua,

Welcome to the insanity of BT and da donks!! I am from the Madison area as well.  I think Lake Mills is a great sprint, but it usually isn't until the first week of June.

It is part of the Wisconsin Tri series and a bunch of us did it this year.  Good luck with your training and have fun!

Hi, Joshua, and welcome.

I'm out of Marshall, and Amyjotris is in and out of the Madison area (due to having some guy named firstnet911 from the eastern side of the state ), and Deannas is out of Madison (they are part of the Donkey crew, like myself).  There are other BT members from the Madison area that I haven't met yet but wish I can tell you who they are.

You can check this when it gets updated -
http://www.findaraceevent.com/genericsummary.aspx?region=wisconsin&sport=adventure%20race

or BT's own thread -
http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/directory/index.asp?catid=160

or here -
http://www.trifind.com/wi.html

Many Donkey members will throw them out here in this forum, too!

Er, Welcome to BT, and EEEAAAWWW welcome from the Donkai Nation!

I think the former was probably more accurate.  Of course in order to effectively run away you would need some speed work too

Anyway, welcome and I hope you enjoy.

Can't you donkeys just leave him alone?  It looks like he really wants to be a triathlete.  Have you already forgotten about what happened to the last newcomer?  oh the humanity.....  It still jerks me up to think about it.

DON'T drink the Zima!

Oh please!  I'm fairly new and not a donkey and I am just fine.  They are a little scary at first but mostly harmless (really).

Welcome Joshua -

I am also a newbie to BT and in the Madison area - I still haven't figured the whole Donkey thing out - is it local? nationwide? Why are they donkeys? You know, so many questions.....

I agree with Amy Jo about the Lake Mills Tri - I think it will be June 7th in 2009 so a bit late for your April/May schedule, but it is a good beginners race (it was my first).

Enjoy BT!

Thank you for the welcome all.  I'll probably look to do the Lake Mills one actually.  The first week of June will more than likely work out.

And it will take more than this to scare me away.  Though I do wonder, of all the letters of the alphabet, why the M?

I just figgered out the reference.  That would be the "M Dot" logo for Ironman.

Do a few more tris and you will figure it out.

There's also an early season indoor tri in Whitewater - it's usually in March. I did it as my first. It's a nice gentle intro, as transitions aren't timed and it's all indoors - stationary bike and treadmill. I don't think you're going to find much in the way of outdoor tris in May.

There is also the Whitewater Early-bird, which is an indoor swim, then outdoor bike and run... not sure exactly when it is, though.
