Subject: blackland tri
I keep checking the website for blackland tri to see the maps but they are not posted yet.

Has anyone done this one and do you know the route for the run or bike.

thanks

Last year was the first year for this event. It was a good event. The bike went down Los Rios and back essentially. It is supposed to change this year though, so keep waiting for maps.

The run last year made a big loop around the CCCD campus and then down Spring Creek and a loop in the grass near the amphitheater. There are some new running trails behind the amphitheater though so it is likely the run may use some of those this year.

Bike map has been posted now. Run map still waiting on. 2 loops this year. All right turns except one left onto Parker. Looks quite a bit better than last year. They appear to have done their best at avoiding the busier intersections which is nice and we will definitely be missing the chaos that was Los Rios and 14th from last year.

I have heard nothing but good things about this event last year.  It is on my schedule.  I took an OWS clinic from Coach Frank and Coach Dunbar.  It was nicely put together and both of them seem committed to a quality production.

I signed up yesterday. A tri that starts at 8:45 AM- SWEET! Although I'm sure the heat will be a complete beat down.

The late start is super awesome. You can get there early and watch the kids or sleep in late. Last year since it was actually daylight, the wife and I rode our bikes to the race. It was sweet.

OK, so when I registered yesterday... I tried to put in 5:02 for my swim time. It gave me an error that it had to be a numeric value. WELL, I put a NUMERIC VALUE in there.

I finally had to put "5" to make it go through.

So... what worries me is that EVERYONE registering is having to put an EVEN time. It doesn't allow for seconds???

Or was I doing something wrong?

Hey Tim, maybe we can all ride over from your house this year?

I had this problem also. Emailed the RD. He told me to separate the minutes/seconds with a period versus the standard colon (ie. 5.02). I did this and it worked fine. Like you though, I'm sure a lot of people will not figure this out or use some sort of other method. This could result in a fun swim!!!

You want to ride with me, come on over. It's only about 4.5 miles from the house. Great little warmup for the race.

Well cr@p, they need to put those instructions on the registration form. The swim will be chaos. UGH!

I may ride with you. Gotta see what Jonny is doing. If he goes with he'll probably want to drive there.

WAIT! If I ride over I'll have to get up earlier. Hhuummm. I don't like the sound of that.

I may be in a pickle with the swim. I was unsure of my time since this is my first.  I tested myself and entered 13 minutes.  Over the course of the last several weeks.  I am down to 6 1/2 minutes for the swim.  I sure hope I can pass the other swimmers pretty easy if need be.

Any advice on doing so would help since being a noob at my first Tri I am unsure of the procedures for a pool swim....or any Tri swim actually...ha!

My first tri was similar pool style and I put down 9 mins and finished in 7.  The lanes are wide enough that you shouldn't have any problems passing.  I think I passed about 12 people and had 1 pass me.

If you are down to 6 1/2 now, then you may finish even faster during the tri due to the excitement running through you!  Good luck!  I'll probably be one of the people you will be passing

I recommend emailing the race director immediately. They may be able to make a last minute change and correct your time for you and get you reseeded. It may be too late, but worth a shot.

Shirts aren't required in the water.  It may be tough to put a shirt on for the bike/run while you're wet though.  Some races require a shirt for the bike/run portion but I'm not sure about this one.  Wear any color EXCEPT pink. Wink  You can wear a tri top in the water and keep it on throughout the whole race.

All strokes are allowed in the swim but please don't do a breaststroke with the frog/whip kick.  There are too many other swimmers nearby and getting hit by the breaststroke kick isn't too fun.

LOL,, Thanx for the info.. Just wanted to make sure , the shirt im going to wear would really slow me down inthe pool, so i think ill try and make it work in transition while im wet.  as far as the swim, I have a really weird breathing technique, so i have been trying to get it right and sometimes i need to roll up on my side for a few strokes to get my rhythm back on track.. so i wont be doing the breast/frog kick. so your safe....  Thanx again..

You don't have to wear a shirt for the swim & I tried that one time until an official came over & asked me to put one on Wink Clydesdale Baby!! If your going to put a shirt on while your wet try sprinkling baby powder on the inside before the race,so it slips on better.
