Subject: Possible navicular stress fracture

I recently had a CT scan to determine if I have a stress fracture of the navicular in my right foot.  The Dr. told me it was either a fracture or I was having inflammation of one of the tendons in the area, I can’t remember their names.  Unfortunately, I will not find out the results until Tuesday.  My foot was feeling much better by the middle of this week so I tried running.  I made it about 1.5 miles before it hurt so bad I had to walk/limp home. My question is I would like to ride my bike (road not tri if it makes a difference) this weekend.  When my foot started hurting I was able to ride without discomfort so I was figuring I would be OK.  I understand if the navicular is broken it will mean a I will be in a non-weight bearing cast for 6 weeks so this will be my last opportunity to ride.  My husband and a friend of mine think this is a bad idea.  Any one with any knowledge on the subject willing to weigh in?

A few years ago I had a stress fracture of the navicular in my right foot.  It was horrible.  It was a slow growing pain and eventually I couldn't bear it.  At the time I wasn't biking or swimming.  That stress fracture is what actually got me into triathlons.  Anyway, I was in a cast for a bit.  My doc said I could ride easy and swim, as long as it didn't hurt.

Apparently the navicular bone is a hard bone to fracture.

I hope you feel better soon.

If it hurts to ride I would not.  Call your Drs office and see if they have the result yet.  Ask to talk to your Drs nurse or asst (back door in
