Subject: Pain above knee

I have my first triathlon in just a week and I need any suggestions I can get.  For about the last month, I have been experiencing fatigue/pain above my knee.  I am fine to walk, but if I squat down I experience fatigue and pain and have a hard time getting back up.  Also, when I run my knees hurt as well.  I have been taking it easy and not running and stretching and icing it as much as possible.  Has anyone ever experienced this type of symptom?  I'm finding a lot of people feel pain below their knee, but not really finding anything above.  Any suggestions are appreciated!!!

Sounds like a quadriceps tendon strain. Try to keep up with the icing and ibuprofen/motrin/or aleve. Squatting exercises are going to hurt the most because the quadriceps tendon connects your quadriceps muscles before it goes around your kneecap and below to insert into the patellar tendon. It all works together.
Try doing either double-leg deadlift or single-leg deadlift because they will work more of your gluts and hamstrings, which are probably weaker than your quads right now and creating a muscle imbalance. Other exercises that will help with this imbalance are quad and hip flexor stretches.
