Subject: Half Ironman Training Plan, Base Questions
I was reviewing a HIM 18 week training plan that I really like.  But the first 3 weeks, the beginning base modular, has extremely low end fitness workouts.  IE. 500 yard swims, 30 min on the bike.

I will be starting this planing mid May, my "B" race is in mid June, and in my mind, the base phase is just too easy (I have looked at the whole plan, I am full aware of how hard it is going to get.)  Do I stick with the plan and do these easy workout, full knowing my fitness is well past these workouts, or do I ramp it up a little?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Just keep doing your normal load until the plan goes above that. No real sense in training less just because the plan starts there. In fact why wait until May to start? The more you can do until then, the bigger your base to work from.

All plans have to be modified to fit you. If that plan is a bit easy you can extend some of the earlier workouts to fit your abilities or consider switching to more of an intermediate or advanced training plan entirely.

Just remember 18-20 weeks is a LONG time (longer than you think right now). I definitely felt like I wanted to tear it up the first month, but following/trusting the plan will yield the best results with the least risk of injury.
