Trek and Cervelo, along with Look, and Specialized al have really good top of the line road bikes. But if you are looking for an entry level road bike....get to yuur Local bike shop and try testing some beauties out.

Look for comfort and ask for a bike fit....as specially if you have not ridden road bikes much.
If your willing to spend money i would recommend buying Shimano TR-50's as a triathlon shoe to race and train in. Look at about 300$ including pedals. Shoes are the key to god training.

When looking at buying an entry level road bike then spend a little on a used road bike.... no moe then 500... thats what i did and i definately got a lot of training in.

I used that bike ...like a 1986 peugeot for a year.... then bought myself an entry level TT bike for $1800. It is well worth it and it is the fastest sexiest thing ive ever purchased.

IMO shoes and comfort are really important,... those old bikes are all really comfortable just find yourself a nice pair of shoes and clip on aerobars for $50 when racing.

Old Bikes Ruule!!  Have a great time racing.... train hard and do lotza sprinting!!

.....then buy yourself a beauty bike.... for triathlon you might want a TT bike instead of road bike, depends on your hobbies.   But start off with an old roadie first.

after a year ...heres what i bought

Bikes are like cars, when the 2010 models come out, the 2009 models are reduced, which should be happening in a month or two.  Also if you live in a cold belt state, the winter time, no one is buying raod bikes, look for great sales around xmas and start of new year.  I bought a roadie in December, reg price $2500.00 for $1400.00 because it was an 08 and there been snow on the ground for about a month now.  Just a suggestion.
