Subject: Quadriceps like a rock...what do you suggest ?
Hi all.
Hope you all are having a great season.

My 1st season as a triathlete has been filled by 2 Sprints and 2 Olympics.
During both Olympics, on the run, around Km 5, I started feeling my quads hard like rock.

Not sure what I'm missing Undecided.

I've ran couple of 1/2 marathons in 2007/2008 and can easily complete them in just less than 2 hours without any quad issue. I did one full marathon end of 2008, and had cramps at Km 30, when I had to mix run/walk until the end.

Both Olympics I completed in just bellow 3 hours.

I'm a "salty sweater". I'm not sure if I miss hidration, extra stretching, or simply not trainning enough.

Have you guys experienced anything similar ?
Thanks for the advice.
/Fabio.

my guess would be fatigue due to cycling. cycling mostly requires the use of your quads.

i am currently training for a HIM and on the bike at about mile 45 or so i really start to feel my quads due to hills. i am a former mid-distance collegiate runner and rugby player so my quads are a bit bigger than those of an ethiopian/ kenyan... so cycling could be a factor.

just a thought.

Hi rugb_wngr.

Well, it might be it. My bike training hasn't been the best. One thing I should do is definitely focus more in bike training and strenght/weight training for the legs.

/F.
