Comments:

This was my first ever race. I was pleased with the run, but I would have to say I thought my time would have been a bit better. I was hoping for something in the 22-23 minute mark, but didn't get near that. I know the hills are what killed me.

I addition, starting in the back of the pack hurt me also, trying to get through all the people. I started back there because I was afraid to get trampled at the start.
What would you do differently?:

I think I would push a little bit more during the race. I think I had a bit left in me at the end. I also think I will move closer the front of the starting line.

Course: The course started out at the top of a hill. The first 1/4 mile or so was all downhill with a little bit of a flat area. The first mile in total was pretty much downhill though. We ran through a subdivision and there were folks sitting out on their yards encouraging us as we went by. For me, there were quite a few hills on this course. I am used to training on a track and these hills were a killer. The last mile or so of the race is completely uphill which as you can see by my lap times, just killed me. The route itself was sort of a loop. I say sort of a loop as there was a small section at around the 1.2 mile mark that was shared with the returning part of the course. It was really not funny watching the leaders of the race coming at me know I still had about 2/3rs of the race to go. :)

I did my first ever race (also a 5K) last weekend too. and I have my first tri coming up. It's a great experience, isn't it? I think using a 5K as a dress rehearsal is good. I definitely got the jitters done with and know what pace I'm comfortable with now. I had a peek at your training log. You are a fast runner! Wow. It's my weakest discipline so I was happy with a time a bit slower than yours! I wish you good luck on the first tri!
